I recently had to cancel my wedding reception planned for June 7th, 2008. I let the rep know at our catering service and venue (both Lessings) about a week ago. I was told unless the place is rebooked with a wedding, we won't get our money back ($5K deposit). I have since advertised the availability on this site and have received a few responses in regard to a Better Business Bureau law that states if cancelled 6 months or more in Suffolk County that we may receive all but $100 in refund of deposit.
Can anyone elaborate on this? Has anyone known anyone to go through this before?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Happy new year everyone!

Re: 6 Month Rule for cancellation in Suffolk?
i was looking @ our Lessings contract after seeing this post, and mine states that we are entitled to a full refund of deposits if we cancel more than 6 months before our date. that said, doesn't it mean that you would have had to send the cancellation letter prior to december 7th? i'm not sure about the law, and i don't know if the rules are the same w/ all lessings locations, but our contract gives us the same protection as this 6 month rule.

That is the law, regardless of what the contract states. You have to give them a cancellation dated six months prior to the date, and they must give you back all but $100. Good luck!
