Hi Ladies! I am very new to this website but it looks awesome!
I've been dating my fiancee for over 7 years, and last week he finally popped the question. We decided to do something crazy- I'm going to try and plan this wedding in 6 months. (hells, i've been waiting long enough, lol)
OK, so is this even possible? Did anyone else do this, and if so, any tips??
Thanks!

Re: 6 months?
It can definietly be done if your organized and know what your looking for. I say start with RH and Ceremony Site since those get booked up fast. Then move on to other big vendors. Good Luck!

Re: 6 months?
wow, you guys are fast! no venue yet - i guess that's the big thing. we're trying to find something garden like on the north shore, but my fiancees family has a restaurant so we want to find somewhere that will let us bring in our own caterer. i can't imagine this will be easy. i was thinking about just getting a planner and letting them deal with all of this but i have no idea how much that would cost. if only my mom was web savvy... lol

Absolutely it can be done! My friend planned a wedding in 4 months. And got a great deal on a place since they were trying to 'sell' the date. Good luck on your search!

Re: 6 months?
also, what's the best way to figure out how much everything costs? i'm trying to slap together a budget so i know if ramen noodles is on my lunch list for the next year.
should i just call around to vendors on the site?

Glen Cove Mansion (Glen Cove) Giorgios at Fox Hill (Baiting Hollow) Thatched Cottage (Centerport) The Woodlands (Woodbury) Venderbilt Mansion (Centerport) Condire Hall (Huntington)
Not a lot of places let you bring your own caterer but you can check around.
Everyone seems to have different opinions of the cost. For example, some people spend $3-4k on flowers/centerpieces but I was more conservative and spent under $2k. Same with photography, prices can range from $500-$5k and up. Favors, music, invitations (I found a great deal on my invites so that helped save a few hundred)
April 1st should be a good time, My wedding is 3.31.12 and the prices around were reasonable for that time of year.
Other expenses: Cake (if not included) anywhere from $500-$2,000+ Dress (I'm sure you've seen the shows) Gifts for bridal party Video anywhere from $1,000-$3,000+
Budget is anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 and up on Long Island. You could get it under 20k if you had a very small wedding.

Re: 6 months?
Absolutely! My sister and BIL got married in exactly 6 months from booking their RH, and my brother and SIL got married in 4 months. So it is definitely possible! Just stay organized and book the important things: RH, band/dj, and photographer. Oh and the most important thing THE DRESS!!

Re: 6 months?
How many people are you planning on inviting? I think the first thing you need to do is make the guest list, then take about 20% off, which should be about your minimum. Then, put together your budget to figure out what you can comfortably afford. After that, just find a RH and pick the date. After all of that is done, then you can focus in on what you are going to spend on flowers, music, favors, photography, videograpy, invitations, dress, etc.
Good luck and congrats!!
