6 week sonogram help

I haven't posted that I am pregnant yet...so I guess this will 'out' me. My Dh and I have been TTC for a while now and I wanted to make sure that everything was going well before I posted.

I went for my first Doctor visit today and they did a sonogram. All they could see was a 'yolk sack'. The Dr said I am pregnant but they want to make sure this is a viable pregnancy before they do any blood work, etc. I have to go back in a week.

My question is- for all of you BTDT and new preggos- could they see a fetus? I just want to know if this is an indication of this pregnancy not being successful. At this point, I don't know what to think.

Sam first of all How did they date the pregnancy do you know the date you conceived is you cycle regular? I went for a sono weeks 4-6, at 4 they didn't see anything. At 5 they saw a yolk sac. At 6 they saw a slow 108 heartbeat, which they said had probably just started beating that morning

I think at 6 weeks they hope to see a heartbeat but if you dates are off you may not be 6 weeks yet? I would still question your doc about drawing hcg levels b/c the heartbeat should appear at a certain level.

Congratulations!!! Its probably too early for them to see anything more yet.
I didn't have my first sonogram until I was either 7 or 9 weeks along.

When do you go back? Do you have any symptoms, tired sore boobs??? Good luck try to keep yourself busy this week

I go back on Tuesday morning and I'm seeing a different Doctor. I had a new Doctor because mine was on vacation. She scared me more than anything. My mother works in a hospital and got info from another ob/gyn who gave me a little more hope. There is a slight possibility my dates are off...and I hope they are.
I still have the sore boobs and I'm exhausted. I haven't gotten any morning sickness yet- although I never thought I would be anxious to get it....

My first appt at the dr was at 8 wks - she did an internal sono where you could see a fetus, although not too clearly.

Maybe just the dates are off....hopefully they'll be able to see more at your next appt.

Was it an internal or external sono? I had an internal at 8 weeks and the fetus was clearly there, but not much to see.

I don't know how far along you are but I know at 6 wks is when you can first hear a heartbeat. I didn't have an internal before 8 wks and at that point there was a tiny bean.

When I went for my first ultrasound I thought I was just about 6 weeks, but the doc only saw the yolk sac and said that I was about 5 weeks. I got all nervous and stressed out of course, but then next time I went (a week and 1/2 later) - they saw the embryo and heartbeat, etc. and said that I was just about 7 weeks! So the doc was wrong the 1st time I guess. Try not to worry - I am sure that everything is fine!

My first internal sono was at about 4 weeks and there was only a sac and nothing else really to see. At 6 weeks we had another one and there was kind of a line with a beating heart...the dates can be very 'off' in the beginning.

*******Sticky baby vibes to you****** I had problems with my first sono at 6 weeks. They found a 'bleed'. I still don't know exactly what that means. I had to go back a week later. It was still there. I had to then go back two weeks later for another sono. The anxiety I felt was so unbelievable. I prayed every night. Everything turned out fine. The bleed went away. I'll be praying for you. I wish you all the best!!
