I also remember exactly where I was...I was NOT in NYC but I was at work on LI....fear and anger ran through my body when I heard someone say we were just struck by a terrorist attack! I am thankful I didnt lose anyone in my life but that doest mean I dont feel the hurt and frustration for those people that did. My heart and my prayers go out to your families...and you wont be forgotten!!!!

Re: 6 Years Ago...

i was 21 and working at News12.com as a website editor. Since I worked in a newsroom we had TVs everywhere. I walked in that morning and there was only one person in before me. The phones were ringing off the hook. I stared at the tv and I saw the image of the plane going into the tower. At first we thought it was a horrible accident, then the second hit and we freaked out. My managing editor came running into the room and told us to get to work cause footage was starting to pour in.

The next few hours were a blur. I had to edit the footage to make it presentable to show on television, so i saw more than i needed to. i also had to post pictures of the missing people that family and friends were sending us to put on the site and the news show.

we worked for 5 hours straight before my boss made me go outside and take a break. it was so eery looking at the sky and seeing how beautiful it looked and 40 miles away the towers were falling.

thanks...i needed to get that out. i dread seeing anything 9/11 related on tv or in the paper. i dont like remembering the footage i saw but i know we have to remember it.

am i the only one who refused to see the 9/11 movie?

Re: 6 Years Ago...

I remember the sunny clear day it was.
I was staring out my 40th floor window as the second plane came from the south, banked hard to the left and flew straight into the tower.
I was staring out the window as first one tower fell, and then the second tower fell.
I was trying to gets calls thru. Somehow my sis was able to get thru to me, and we kept the phone line open so that she could keep all of us informed of what was going on. My niece had been born only 15 days before. Last thing I told her before the phone died was that if I can get off this freakin island, I would go to her MIL's house in Astoria. If not, I would go to Central Park to be out in the open.

Every once in a while I still have nightmares of the planes. I have a hard time in elevators, and try not to think about commuting thru the midtown tunnel every morning.

I know a few people who died that day. I know a few first responders who were there that day.
I thank God that I was not there that day.

Re: 6 Years Ago...

Thanks for posting this Rosella-it is important that we remind ourselves of the horror and tell our stories so we never forget!

I was on LI, SUNY Stony Brook Campus-it was my last year. I was excited on my way to school because I was planning on going to the WTC the next morning for a law school exhibition. I had never been inside. I was listening to 105.3 in my car on the way to class, and all of the sudden, they start covering the attacks. At the time, I thought it was a preview for a movie and I said to myself, 'Who would make such a grotesque movie? This is just horrible'-basically they broke into the broadcast after the first plane hit. No prelude-I could not fathom that something like this could be real.

I then went to my first class and people were talking about this. Our professor basically told us, class as scheduled, everything is fine. On to my next class which was about the Crusades-we had a discussion about what was happening, and 10 minutes later, we were all instructed to leave the campus, as there were bomb threats and numerous threats that people might terrorize the campus. I couldn't call out-no one's phones worked. I went home and my parents were crying-they couldn't reach me. We were all freaked out-especially when I thought of all of the poor innocent people there-many from my community!

I am tearing up a little, but I will quickly finish-

I went in the city a few days later and accidentaly drove into the area-the air was filled with debris and smoke, and I don't want to even tell you about the smell-it was awful and made me cry.

And, this I must add....this ties into the alpaca thing of the past few days-There is a point...sometimes we get so wrapped up in the details and minutia of daily life that we forget what truly matters-love, family and health. Without these, we have nothing. When things get crazy, we quickly forget how lucky every single person on this forum is-maybe we have stress, maybe things get stressful and sad-but we still have our loved ones, and that is what matters when all is said and done.

I want to tell everyone about an article I read a while back in Glamour, about 6 women who lost people in 9/11-Two of those women were brides like us, whose fiances perished in the Towers. One girl was to marry a few weeks after. She was on the phone with her FH and the phone went dead.

Please remind yourselves that there is nothing worse than this, and tell your loved ones every day that you love them, because with life, you never know when it is the last time you will be able to. I wish everyone on here a long happy healthy life and marriage-but please don't forget 9/11 and the lessons we should learn-don't hold grudges, don't stay angry, and remind your FH/DH/DW/FW-whomever, that you love them!

I would never forget 9-11...I still feel it inside me and I don't think it will ever go away. I worked 2 blocks away from ground zero and the experience I felt during and after, no words to explain it. My heart goes out to all the love ones of 9-11...

Re: 6 Years Ago...

I was never really a city person.. the crowds made me nervous I didn't like elevators and I hate taking the train........i woke up at 730 that morning and was supposed to go to the city with my friend to a head hunter (we were both 20 yrs old and jobless) which was right by the WTC.... I called my friend and was like I really dont want to go its such a beautiful day outside lets just go rollerblading instead... to which she agreed.....i had the tv on and was in an out of sleep when the special report came on.... at first I didnt know what building it was because I didn't have the volume up on the tv so I called my mom and told her I think one of the twin towers was on fire... a few seconds later I saw the plane hit the second one and I just started hysterically crying... I couldn't believe what I had just saw.... I was fortunate enough not to have any family members inside the building but I quickly though of my friends parents and my friends who worked in the city and it was horrible trying to get threw to everyone.... Luckily everyone that I knew was lucky enough not to be in those buildings that day but the pain I felt for all the people there was soo real like they were my own.... a few hours later I drove to a friends house and no one was on the streets it was like a ghost town with only the sounds of sirens blaring all over flying toward the city and dust and ashes all over the cars and street... it took me a long time to finally be able to go into Manhattan again... to this day evertime I come out the Brooklyn battery tunnel or see a plane flying in the air.....i always think of sept 11th

RIP to all those who lost their lives that day and to their families and friends

walking to work today from Penn Station was a little strange. I passes a group of firemen in their dress uniforms and started to cry. I dont have an explination why...I just couldnt help it.
Time doesnt make what happened any easier to deal with does it?

they say that time heals all wounds but i think it doesnt... i have a friend that was killed 2 yrs ago and we thought it would be easier after the 1st year passed after the first holidays and first b-days but the 2nd year was just as hard so i can imagine its the same 6 yrs later...

I haven't and can't either.

One of my best friends worked for OEM in 7WTC and was trapped in that building with the Mayor for a bit when the first tower fell. I wasn't able to reach him for several days and I will never forget the feeling of the sheer relief and joy that washed over me when I heard his voice. I literally collapsed on the floor when I heard his voice. I think I still have a bounce back email from him from that day saying that my email to him hadn't gone through...

hugs and prayers to all who lost someone or are suffering themselves now from the aftermath. we must take care of those that worked tirelessly to find all who were in the disaster, who are now themselves gravely ill and dying.
