So my FILs offered to pay for the band, flowers and photographer. We called my FMIL this weekend to let her know we found a band that we really liked and they cost $6800 and she gasped at the price. She lives in Florida and I think isn't really familiar with a NY wedding and how expensive it is up here. Is this too much for a band? I was under the impression that it was in the range of average. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

Re: $6800 for a band - too much?
i'm not really familiar with how much a bad should be, but that does seem very high. i know dj's are ususally between $1500-$2000. i know bands cost more then that, but that really seems like a lot. have you shopped around at all?

We have shopped around quite a bit, and this price seemed like a good one to us. We've gotten prices that were more and some that were less, leading us to believe that this was a decent price. It includes a piano and flute for the ceremony and a sax and piano for cocktail hour. Just wanted to see what others though of the price....

seems like you are getting a lot for that price. imo, its still too high for me, but if its a band you really love, go for it. its your day and you should be happy with the music you select

6800 is not a lot for a band...If you don't mind, can you FM the band..we are in the process of shopping for one...we have been coming right around that number for a 5 hour reception & no cocktail music

I don't think that's a bad price at all. It also depends on how many pieces are playing for the reception. We have a 9 piece band for $6000....and they were going to charge $900 for the ceremony/cocktail trio (violin, flute, cello)---but the trio was already booked, so we're gonig with a seperate trio ensemble.
So, it's important to look at how many people are in the band and what you're actually getting for you money.

I think it all depends on what you choose to spend your money on. I wish to spend more on band and photos than on flowers and all the other extras. Im gonna lose my shirt!!!

Considering that it includes ceremony AND cocktail hour music too, it is definitely not too much. We are paying $5200 for our band, which is probably the best price you'll get on LI, and it only includes cocktail hour. I think it's $250 more per musician for the ceremony, so we'll be paying about $6000 to include a trio of some sort (maybe). So, you CAN do better, but not much. If you're interested, check out any of the Skyline bands (we're using Code Bleu...they're great!).

We had Niteflight. 9pcs with cocktail hour around 5k right now, They were cheaper when I had them. They don't work though an agency so their fees are lower. I think that $6800 is a little high but there are bands that are higher.

We are paying about $6000.00 for our band. It's 8 piece and this price includes cermony and ch music.
I think $6800 is average. Of course it also depends on how many peices, if it is a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, and what time of year. Regardless all the bands we have seen have ranged from $5500 to upwards of $10k. Right now we are leaning toward Faze4 Chris Michaels, but we are trying to keep it on the lower side and would love some recommendations.

I think it's an OK price, but if she lives in FL she might believe your whole wedding should not be more than $6800!!!

I think its high, especially if someone else offered to pay, you want to be curtious of that. I would look into DJ's, but I know some folks love bands. Maybe cut back on the cermony music or cocktail music. I know most places can pump in music in the cocktail room. Most people don't even notice music in the cocktail room
