looked at the Watermill last night and fell in love with it. They only thing we were cautious about is that the cocktail hour doesnt start til 8 and the reception is 9 to 1. Is that too late? I know not everyone is going to stay until 1 am, but i dont want people leaving at 12. Has anyone gone to a wedding this late? If so, was it empty by 1230?
Thanks, Katie

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
I have a 8pm CH on a friday night-I am not worried at all. I have been to weddings that had ceremonies that started at 9pm-and people partied on all night long. The people who count would not even consider leaving early :)
I am not concerned that people will leave early. The only way I would be concerned that the festivities might die down is if you have a late viennese hour and sometimes people have a hard time getting back to the dance floor. Ive seen that happen many times. That is why we won't have one.

I've been to a few weddings that ended at 1pm. It was fine! Don't worry.

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
My CH was from 7:30-8:30 and the reception ended at 12:30. I can tell you that most of my guests stayed till the end.

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
Our wedding goes until 1. And people seem psyched and ready to party. I think some of the older people will leave, but the younger people will probably go to another bar afterwards!!
The only complaint that I have received so far is people asking why there is such a huge time gap between church and the cocktail hour. (we'll have about 2 1/2 hours between). I told people that I wanted to take pictures then and that I would not be offended if they didn't come to church.

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
I wouldn't worry about an 8 pm cocktail hour, if people are going to leave early they will leave early regardless of what time the cocktail hour starts. My parents were at a wedding this past saturday and the cocktail hour was at 1pm with the party ending at 6pm and people started leaving at 5:30. So it didn't make a difference for those guests and that was in the middle of a saturday afternoon. Do what YOU both want and then you both will be happy......because in the end it is your wedding and your day!

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
My wedding is the same time.
I am concerned about it- mainly b/c people wont be eating dinner until like 10:30 pm but if the partys rockin' the troopers will stay.
The older people may leave early but I dont think I'll even notice.

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
My ceremony starts at 6:30, CH starts at 7, and then the reception goes until 12. I'm getting married on a Sunday, so I definitely don't expect everyone to stay all night, but I'm sure most of the young people will stay (they usually don't care what they have to do the next day, and most of our guests are mine and FI ages). ~~Kim

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
That's when mine is (7:30 ceremony, 8-9 cocktail hr, 9-1 recep)... I prefer late receptions so it was perfect for us! If it's on a fri or sat night I don't think people will leave early... esp b/c most will have off the next day!

Re: 8 PM Cocktail Hour
My reception ended at 1 as well. MOST of the people stayed til the end. The only people that left were some older ones and a few others. ALL of our family and close friends were there til the end and we were happy about that.
