Re: 9/11 Threat
Don't they make this threat every year?
I can't give in to the hype. FH is a cop on the night shift in midtown. If I worried every time they did this I'd be gray.
I pray that everyone stays safe. But the way the media hypes this up and tries to make us paranoid really bugs me.

There are threats every year, but I think that having the President and the Former President at the exact location of the previous attacks on the 10th anniversary makes these a little more frightening (for me at least)
Especially in light of the fact that Bin Laden has been killed.

I think the fact that Obama and GW are going to be there will make downtown Manhattan the safest place on the planet. :)

They do make this threat every year, but they had this entire thing on channel 7 about the potential terrorist threat.

The threats are real. The media doesn't create threats, our government releases that information to the media. Sure, they cover it like crazy, but I think it is more substance than hype. There is no incentive for the government to create fake terror threats.

Did I hear correctly that because of all the politians going there is not enough room at the memorial for all the NYC police and firefighters?? That just seems so wrong to me since they were the real heros of the day.

I heard the same thing and if it's true, it's disgusting.
PS - If any terrorists interrupt my plans for dress shopping in the city tomorrow they will have to answer to me! First Hurricane Irene and now a possible terrorist threat? I can't win lol

Yes it is true. They were the real heroes but since they don't need to seen in front of a camera as part of a re-election, they don't matter. Even families who lost loved ones were told to limit the amount of people they can bring. Part of it is because it's an active construction site. There isn't a whole lot of room down there for people with machinery and supplies.

I didn't say they weren't real. I just said the media creates the hype and tries to keep us scared and paranoid. At least 3 times a year they tell us they've heard something about mass transit, car bombs, or whatever else and we should all be on the lookout.
Offtopic: There actually is incentive for the government to create fake threats. To keep us scared in our homes and distracted from the terrible job they are doing. To make us forget about the economy, the loss of privacy thanks to the Patriot Act, and our protests to the war. They release info like this and everyone gets scared and suddenly thankful Big Brother is here to save us from the scary terrorists.
If you haven't seen V for Vendetta, watch it. It shows exactly how any government can use fear to keep its people in line.

I work across the street and will be working tomorrow! I have seen a much larger presence of police and security, so trying not to be too concerned.

Re: 9/11 Threat
FYI - Bloomberg released a statement today saying that everyone should go about their normal activities b/c if we hide, they're winning. This happens every year around this time, I'm not going to stop living b/c some terrorists made a threat. There are threats made against our city every day, we just don't hear about them. I lost family and friends parent's in 9/11 so it hits home to me but I'm not going to live my life in fear either.
And the threat level is a '5' on a scale of 1 - 10.
