A bad day for my canine son

A bad day for my canine son

Ever since Arnie was 3 months old, my friend's sister has been his groomer. She does a terrific job on him, and takes good care of him. She loves him and he behaves beautifully when he is with her. Her shop is in Huntington, and I just didn't feel like dragging Nicky all the way there this time, so I made an appointment for Arnie at a local shop.

When I went to pick him up, he wasn't quite ready, and they asked me to wait outside. WHAT?! Why? I was so upset. What could they possibly have been doing to the dogs in there that I couldn't see??

After a few minutes they called me in through the window. Arnie was waiting for me and looked miserable. The woman who was holding me asked if he had ever been groomed before. I said yes, every six weeks, but always by a friend, before this time. She went on to tell me that he was nasty and vicious, bit without provocation, and had to be muzzled. I was shocked, and devastated. Anyone who has met Arnie can tell you that he is a happy, sweet dog, who has never even snapped at anyone. He must have been terrified to behave that way, and beyond terrified when he was muzzled.

I cried all the way home. When we got home, Arnold ran behind the couch and wouldn't come out for hours.

Needless to say, he WILL NOT be going back there.

Awww Jenn. I feel so bad for you both! Sounds like a miserable day for the two of you -- your poor baby. Hopefully you can give him all the cheering up he needs...

Sorry to hear this. I hope he at least looks nice. I guess I am lucky my DH takes the dog into the shower once a month for a washing.

AWE !! Poor Arnie!!!

He must have felt so lonely and scared away from mommy and his little brother

I hope he feels better soon. and I can vouch for it that he's a sweet, harmless little thing, even a 16month old boy can have him running around the house

Big hugs from his buddy John Anthony

That is awful. You should call the owner and complain!
I hope he has a much better night.

Hmmm, kind of makes me wonder why he would 'snap' like that???? Maybe he felt threatened...I know my 3 babies are the friendliest dogs around, but there have been people that have rubbed them the wrong way and just didn't like them. I bet he is extra protective with the baby and he just didn't like the new people!

sounds like Arnie had a bad experience over there. Last time you'll take him there for SURE.

Victoria we do that! But once a WEEK!!! (she is terribly spoiled and loves her shower time with mommy!)

That is HORRIBLE

Jenn, my friend had a similar experience.
She used to take her dog..a pug to the same groomer for so long, and then when she went to bring him home he acted funny.
So she went to bring him back and he would NOT go in the room. That was very odd, because he is so friendly and LOVED to go, so something happened.
Im so sorry Anrie went through such a tragedy.

Arnie sleeps in our bed, so he gets bathed at least weekly. He gets his hair and nails trimmed at the groomer every 6 weeks. Non shedding breeds like poodles require a lot of upkeep.

Poor Arnie

It's funny how they 'know' certain places and people. I take Angel and Sprinkles to the same place I bring my oldest Boston Gizmo to, but it's in by my Mom's and it's sort of out of the way (plus it's a hassle with three rambuncious doggies). I brought them to a groomer out by us a handful of times and you can see how uncomfortable they are with the unfamiliar surroundings and people. It's only for a nail clipping, but still. Even when we tried to 'change' vets to get something a little more convenient to home, they were terrified.

I decided no matter how much of a hassle it is, their comfort is more important. Plus, they love going in by Grandma's and spending time with their half-siblings (Gizmo lives with my Mom and so does Penny, Shadow, Patches, Teddy, Kirby and Sweetie).

Aw!!!!!!! I can totally see how you can call him your canine son, it must have been heartbreaking for you to see him like that. I hope Arnie's having a better day today.

Poor Arnie. I think he should get a new toy or a good treat for his traumatic day.
