My dad's first cousin (who I am not very close with) called him up today to tell him that her son just got engaged. She was inquiring about my wedding date, b/c she said that she didn't want to cause a date conflict with my wedding (sweet, right?). After a few minutes of speaking with my dad about other stuff, she nonchalantly asked him where I'm getting married. My dad told her East Wind, and was saying how nice it was and how he's only heard good things about it from his friends who have been to weddings there.
So a few days later, my dad's cousin calls him back to say that her son has an appointment to see a nice hall this weekend-- you guessed it, East Wind! Then she says 'I have a feeling their wedding will be in mid-spring'.... meaning that my dad's entire side of the family will see my wedding hall before my wedding!!!
Is it just me, or was this a little sneaky on his cousin's part? I'm a little pissed off (not super pissed, b/c they didn't book the hall yet or anything) b/c their wedding will be before mine and I really wanted the majority of my guests to see the hall for the first time at my wedding. Most of the people going to my wedding will be from Nassau and Queens, and have been to TONS of weddings in Nassau and Queens, but never Suffolk!
Would you be pissed off if you were me?

Re: A Bit PO-ed...
I wouldn't worry too much....they may not even end up booking there, and chances are whatever day they want will more than likely not even be available especially since mid spring is less than a year away!!
Most likely even if they do book the same hall, I'm going to guess they will have to do it later in the year. Same if they book another hall. I would relax until their wedding plans are set in stone. If they were really not trying to cause a conflict, I would let them know that they should pick another time of year, not necessarily to make it easier on you, but to also all of the family members who will have to shell out twice for gifts and such!!

Re: A Bit PO-ed...
That's tough! But you will have so many uniques touches to your own wedding that it will be different despite the same hall. Do not open your mouth about any other details about the wedding!

I think I would be very angry too. It would be one thing if they were getting married after you, but to make it before and at the same place-that's really tacky

Re: A Bit PO-ed...
I WOULD be upset... is it a huge deal NO- IF Long Island didnt have soooooooooooo many halls I would say ok fine, BUT LI has an adundance of beautiful halls, there is NO reason to see the one hall you would want them to stay away from---and then get married before you??? I dont think its nice of them! Hopefully they wont book there
You should call/make a list of halls you saw or know of that are beautiful and give it to them 'TO HELP THEM with their search' since you did it already!

Re: A Bit PO-ed...
Try not to stress too much now...they're just looking. IF they do book it though then yes...I would be very p i s s e d! The whoe date issue wouldn't bother me (them getting married first) BUT the fact that they chose the hall knowing that you're getting married there a couple of months later and knowing that you've been planning this wedding is rude imo. And your poor dad...he is probably so excited about your wedding so he said such nice things about East Wind...not even thinking that they would go look there too! How does he feel about this?

Now would be a good time to send out STDs with the location on it so everyone knows that you planned it first!

Re: A Bit PO-ed...
yes i would be very annoyed at this point...keep your lips sealed about all of your wedding related ideas, vendors, and colors from this point on! i would even contact the couple directly and be honest with them about why you picked that hall (bc its new to the family and you can't wait to share you day with all of them there, ect) and that you would be hurt if they chose the same place. maybe they'll listen, who knows! i would be upset with them, there are soooooo many halls out there to chose from! good luck! ~lacey

I would be upset too, but the others have a point. We all know that we have to book this stuff early. If they actually get a date I would be very surprised...East Wind is a very popular hall.
