A Bridal Shower Question.....Yikes!

A Bridal Shower Question.....Yikes!

Is the bridal shower suppose to be just for close friends and family? Or, are you suppose to invite every female that is invited to the wedding? I am only asking as my MOH asked me for a list of names for the shower. Our wedding list is totally getting out of hand and if I give my friend the whole list, there will be way over 80 people....I know she wanted to have it in her house so I think this may be too many people. Plus, I am on the shy side and I don't know if I will feel comfortable with all those eyes on me :) Is it mainly friends of the bride? My future mother in law seems to be adding in anyone she could think of, regardless if they know me or not. I know it is really for the couple, but is the shower more geared to who the bride is close with? I am not confused! Please, enlighten me!

You do not have to have every woman who is invited to your wedding at your shower. You should invite those people who you are close with and who would be honored to share this part of the whole wedding process with you.

You don't have to invite every woman from the wedding to the shower. If they invited to the shower, than they absolutely should be invited to the wedding. I had mine this weekend. We had family and close friends there. People I, my mom and my FMIL are closest with.

It's really up to you. You could invite only close friends and family or all the females invited to the wedding. I didn't add to my list some females on groom's side if I've never met them (because they would probably be uncomfortable and I would look greedy) and MIL didn't ask to invite everyone she had on her list for the wedding. Even though your list may seem large, not everyone is probably going to make it anyway.

This is a really hard question to answer.

I invited all of my family and friends and left off people that I didn't know (FH & Dad's work friends etc.). Think of it this way, would you be expected to be invited to their showers? My FMIL added people to my shower list that I didn't know, her friends. I felt funny at first because I didn't know them but she said that she has been buying for all these peoples kids/grandkids and now it was our turn. It's hard because you don't want it to turn into a circus but you don't want offend anyone either.

Good luck!!!

FYI...

My Bridal Party invited 83 people to my shower and only 55 showed. Almost everyone who didn't come sent a gift.

You invite who you want to the shower - any female friends, family, if you want every women you can have it but it is NOT a necessary.

BUT rule of thumb is that if you invite them to the shower they MUST be invited to the wedding. That is the only requirement

LOL - I was in a very similar situation.

I firmly believe that you should only invite close friends and family to the shower not every female guest. (I personally hate getting invited to showers for people I barely know.) My MIL felt opposite. My mom and I only invited people that we were close to or felt appropriate to invite. MIL invited everyone - people like every neighbor (none of which I had ever met) and her friend's son's girlfriend. Wound up quite a few of those people didn't come anyway so it wasn't too bad. I had a very lovely shower but I can tell you I felt very uncomfortable walking in and there was a complete table of like 10 people who I only new one person's name. The people were very nice and generous but I felt uncomforatble being introduced to them at a party that was in my honor and felt bad that they spend money on me.

I think if the shower is in the house - you should keep it small and either you or DH should talk to MIL and let her know this is what you want and what will make you happy.

Only close family and friends. On my list i put down my close friends and my mom's. Bridal showers are supposed to be intimate in my opinion, that wouldn't work with 80 people.

personally i only want family & friends at my shower. i would feel awkward with every single female guest being there. i would prefer the intimacy of a small shower with the people i love over lots of guests whom i won't have time to talk to & lots of gifts.

I gave my MOH a list of about 15 people. I only want family and close friends there, otherwise it would feel a little awkward for me. I have gone to a shower with about 40 people, but the bride had something like 8 aunts on her dad's side of the family and each aunt had two daughters, so the numbers added up.
