i need a little help with tipping. my question is a little different than most tipping questions.
i want to be able to write my vendors a letter thanking them for their service. a letter that could be used as a review for their own website and/or portfolio.
i'm toying with the idea of including my tip at that point. this way the tip will better reflect their service.
the reason i've even conceived of this idea is because of the thought.... you never put the tip you'll give your waitress in an envelope BEFORE you go out to dinner. you always base it on the final amount and the kind of service that is provided.
another reason i thought about this is because the delay would give me more time (another paycheck) and it will let me provide a more accurate tip. i read so many times how brides wish they would have given some people a better tip because of wonderful service.
am i crazy to want to do things like this??
any ideas, comments, questions welcome

Re: a DIFFERENT KIND of tipping question
I had some extra thank-you cards from the shower and wrote notes to the vendors that had been doing a great job for me. We put the tip in the cards for them and DH handed them the envelopes.
For others that I hadn't met before the wedding (Maitre D, bridal asst, limo driver), I just had envelopes that I bought at Target and put the money in there.
I still intend on sending them all thank you cards with something nice that could serve as a 'testimony'.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but that is not the way it is conventionally done, and if you don't tip your vendors the day of, you are going to have some really unhappy vendors. I would put a set amount in the envelopes, and if you are really unhappy with the service, you can take some out before you give it to them, and if on the other hand you are really happy with them and think they deserve more, then you can send that in your thank-yous. If you are anything like me though, I was feeling extremely generous on my wedding day and if I had not had tips with me I would have felt very bad.

i don't want my 'wedding generosity' to get in the way of what i feel they 'should' be getting.
does that make sense?
i don't want to come home from my honeymoon to find out that the vendor i gave the extra $$ to, was actually being a jerk with my guests.
i really want the tip to reflect the level of service.
for example, i already know that my caterer will be getting a good tip. the company has come to my rescue at the 11th hour. i really want to thank them.
or am i just making a mountain our of a mole-hill?
