I've already been to Central Vet on Merrick in VS but i'm looking for other suggestions. Anywhere in the Valley Stream, Elmont, Floral Park, Franklin Square, Lynbrook, New Hyde Park, 5 towns area is fine.

Re: A good vet in W. Nassau
DON'T got to Central on Merrick. We have taken our doggie there twice bc it's close to our house and we don't know of anywhere else bc he just moved in with us. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND THEY CHARGE UP THE BUTTT. FH just took Lucky in last week bc he wasn't eating .... they wanted to keep him overnight and do some tests -- $1400!!!! They tell FH to call btwn 2 and 3 the next day to check up and see what time he can come him. Well they tell him that he has an enlarged heart and a tumor in lungs and they would like to do more testing -- ANOTHER $1000. Well, no, sorry I'm not giving you another $1000 you're insane. He is 11 years old and if it is definitely cancer we aren't going to treat him for it at $300/week so we don't need to know. 'Ok, that's your decision but he still can't come home tonight.' UMMM EXCUSE ME? Why can he not come home tonight? He has been out of anethesia for SIX HOURS! HE IS COMING HOME. 'Ok, fine but you have to sign a waiver saying you took him out without our permission.' I don't need permission from you to take MY dog home.
So FH goes to work and I go to pick up Lucky. 'Ok you left a $1400 deposit and the balance is $500.' ***?!?!?!? Can I see that bill please? Why were we charged for 2 nights of hospitalization? Nevermind the $400 in medication they prescribed 'just in case it's an infection and not cancer'
Well now comes the waiver (at this point I'm fuming. You tell me my dog has a month to live, you want me to spend $1000 more on MORE tests, and you're charging me $400 in experimental medication). 'Ok, I need you to sign this waiver saying you are taking the dog without the doctor's permission.' 'Yea, I'm aware.' 'Ok, I need to know the reason. Is it bc you can't afford it?' 'EXCUSE ME? IF THE DOG NEEDED TO STAY HERE ANOTHER NIGHT, HE WOULD. I'M TAKING HIM HOME BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON FOR HIM TO BE HERE. HE HAS BEEN OUT OF ANETHESIA FOR 8 HOURS NOW AND HE IS NOT HAVING ANY MORE TESTING DONE. WHY WOULD I MAKE THE POOR DOG STAY HERE ANOTHER NIGHT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO PINCH MORE PENNIES, OH EXCUSE ME, MORE HUNDREDS, OUT OF US. WRITE THAT ON YOUR 'WAIVER' ' 'Ok, sign here and have a seat they will call you back soon.'
UGH I HATE THAT PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and I forgot to tell you that when we found the kitten, we took him there and he has like something weird with his back legs so the vet told FH he'd like to do xrays. FH said 'Are you crazy? Why would I pay hundreds of dollars for xrays and anethesia on a 2 WEEK OLD CAT?? He is still growing! How do you know there is something WRONG? He can barely walk yet...'

My friend who's in vet school worked there one summer. She told me a thousand times not to go back there cuz, as you probably figured, they do a lot of extra tests just to get more $ when they know the animal doesn't need it. Thanks!

Re: A good vet in W. Nassau
A little out of the way, but oh so accessable...on Hempstead Tpke just, I mean just east of Wantagh Parkway.
Levittown Animal Hospital Dr. Dennis Leon
He recently hosted an Open House for his practice and has expanded his hours to include Sunday, yes Sunday...no extra charge.
He's compassionate, no nonsense kind of guy. Not that I'm a huge fan, but Rescue Ink has used his services too.
