my bf is going to get engaged any day now...her boyfriend confided in DH that the ring has been purchased! I am so excited for her....not only is she my bf..but she is going to marry my brothers bf! Anyway..I wanted to get them something special and unique for their engagement..any ideas from you wonderful ladies? Maybe a gift that you received and loved?

My friend bought me tiny a gorgeous hand painted procelan dish that I keep my engagement ring and wedding band in at night.
It's very unique and I use it everyday. It's similar to this except it's round and not heart-shaped.

the best gifts i got when i got engaged(maybe not ther prettiest or most expensive but the things i USED were tons of wedding planning books,a year subscription to a brides magazine and my ring holder...
my sister bought me flutes, engraved pen, a frame and a cake cutting set - i loved it and it saved me money in the budget!

my SIL made me a basket- it had a photobook of different pics of us as a couple, a lenox ring holder, handmade bride and groom t shirts, handmade champagne flutes (decorated with bride and groom outfits), the DVD lisence to wed, 2 albums, one each for bridal shower, bachelorette party and wedding. and a few other things. it was really awesome and personalized. since you are so close to them it would be nice to make them something.
BTW SIL is super creative but you can still make them something if you dont have that gene (like me!)

my friend got us an engraved wooden frame with our names on it. i think she got it from personalizationmall.com or something like that. it was definately unique and special!
....but i really did want someone to get me a magazine subscription!!!!.....i still do actually. lol

When my best friend got engaged, I got her the Swarovski toasting flutes for her to use at the wedding.
I have another friend that will probably get engaged in the next year or so, and I'm going to hand down my accordion folder with all of my flyers and pamphlets from different vendors.

My favorite gift I got was money! Threw it right into my savings account.. But, I also got beautiful picture frames...one was lenox and the other was a fun engagement one. I didn't have an engagement party so I didn't get that many gifts.

I think that is a great idea. Do that with lots of little useful and cute things. A planning book, a couple bride magazines, some bride stuff (like a tshirt or Victoria's Secret stuff from their sexy little bride line). And maybe take a trip to party city and get some things they might have there (like a gag gift too or wedding themed candles and some stuff to decorate your basket with).
same idea as a previous poster, but different item.. I was given this ring holder and I've since bought the same for others.. I love it! Got it at macy's, it's Waterford Marquis

Money was definitely my fave gift too! That and the large bottle of Veuve Clicquot!
