A little annoyed with a bridal shop ...
I won't name the name, but I'm pretty annoyed. Back in September, I fell in love with this Morilee dress I found online. I called 25 stores and NO ONE had it. This one store said they could order it, but it would be a $200 transferable deposit. I went there in October with my mom and sister and tried on dresses. Didn't find anything I loved, but we put down the $200 transferable deposit so that I could at least try the dress on. They said it would arrive in January, and explained to us that if I tried it on and didn't like it, we could apply the $200 to something else.
While we were waiting for the dress to come in, I went to a few other places trying to find a backup, because I didn't want to bank everything on the Morilee I had never even tried on. In November, I found a dress at Bridal World in Baldwin that I FELL IN LOVE WITH. I cried when I put it on. My mom and sister loved it too, and it was WAY under budget, so we ordered it. We decided to use the $200 at the other place for a hairpiece or shoes or something. I didn't even want to try the other dress on because I was afraid I'd confuse myself.
Well, I got the call in January that the Morilee was in. Despite already deciding NOT to try it on, I changed my mind. I was so obsessed with it in the picture that I needed to see it on ... even though I was sure it wouldn't do it for me anymore after finding The Dress elsewhere. I was right ... the dress is BEAUTIFUL, but when I put it on I just didn't feel anything. Of course, the salesperson was telling me how great it looked and urging me to buy it. I just told her that I needed to be honest. We had been looking elsewhere and found a dress somewhere else that I fell in love with, and that we had already ordered it. She went from friendly salesperson to obviously annoyed.
My mom said we were going to use the $200 toward something else. 'Let me check with my boss,' she said. 'You might only be able to use a transferable deposit on another dress.' Um, what? That wasn't mentioned when we left the deposit. We waited for about 5 minutes and then she came back, all apologetic and informed us that yes, we could only use it on another dress. She asked if we could cancel our order at the other shop and get our deposit back there and re-order the dress from her. We decided against it and are now out $200.
Obviously $200 isn't much in the overall cost of a wedding, but it's just the principal! I'm going to check my contract when I get home and unless it specifically says it can only be applied to another dress, I'm going to march back in there and demand store credit.
Bridal World in Baldwin is MUCH nicer, and the woman we worked with, Charnelle, is AWESOME. Nothing but amazing things to say about her.
