A little help please? Venues

Hi-

I have been engaged for a few months now (Feb 16!) to an amazing guy. Unfortunately my mother got sick (she is slowly recovering now) and it obviously side tracked my wedding plans. I feel like a complete loser reading your posts. I have gotta get started! Can anybody give me advice on venues? I am thinking of getting married late July early August.

I am baby stepping it to the alter....

Congrats and I'm glad your mom is getting better.

There's a thread that has a list of a bunch of prices of places - I just bumped it for someone so it should be on this page.

We checked out: Fox Hollow, Westbury Manor, Crescent Beach Club, Woodbury Country Club and the Watermill. We ended up picking the Swan Club, so let me know if you have questions about any of those!

Hey! Welcome to the boards!! I'm sorry to hear your mother was sick, but glad to hear she is getting better!!

What do you have in mind as far as venue? By the water? By a lake? Contemporary feel? Tuscany feel? Neutral colors? Homey feel??

I personally recommend Jericho Terrace, but I'm biad, obviously it was the perfect one for me, personally, thats why I booked it lolz..

I also really liked
Floral Terrace - I find that its unique, its an old movie theater, raised dance floor, and they accomodate you like crazy!

Surf Club - on the water, beautiful chandeliers and staircase

Giorgrios - just a really beautiful place, you can't see the ocean from the room, but they do have a private beach taht you can take pics on, plus they are located on a golf course..

First you have to decide what location you want your wedding. Nassau or Suffolk? Beach, gardens, mansions, indoor, outdoor? Single wedding venue or multiple weddings? How much do you want to spend?

If you narrow it down, we can help better guide you on places you might be interested in.

Congrats on your engagement!!!!!!! When I first got engaged, I went on to this website and went to the link that showed all the RH's on the Island. Then from there I looked at everything and narrowed it down.

Re: A little help please? Venues

Great question! Now that you mention it I am a fun girl so above all else I want the place to be conducive to having a great time. From an aesthetic perspective, I would like a view water front or city view would be great. Nothing rustic, definitly should have a city edge. Funny, it sounds like I am describing myself.

My second idea is to have a mansion wedding so I can do the ceremony, reception and pictures at one place.

Does that help?

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma. I lost my beloved Grandma two years ago, I miss her every day. Oddly, not to be all 'Medium' I can almost feel her helping me plan my wedding. Telling me what to do and what not to do.

That gives me peace. I hope it gives you some too.

Thanks for the site too!

If you want water locations on the south shore let me know cause that is all I looked at. We are on a pretty tight budget so none of the places were super expensive.

I've heard of but never been to a place in Long Island City called Water's Edge. I hear it has great city views without the outrageous city prices since it's in Queens.

Good luck and feel free to ask us any questions you have!

For a fun atmosphere and water, try
Bridgeview Yacht Club

For Mansion style which I am doing.

Hi and welcome to the boards. Thankfully your mother is getting better. Now you can really start planning your wedding!

My advice to you is to do a preliminary list of guests and rough budget. There are a lot of reception halls but if you know how many people you want to invite you'll be able to rule out a few places. It all depends on how you want your wedding to be. I'm personally biased towards my RH... Floral Terrace but there are a lot of great places to have your wedding.

I also liked Chateau La Mer, and Russo's on the Bay.

We are doing the Old Field Club near Stoneybrook. It is a waterfront location that does only one wedding a day. If you are looking for something simple and elegant, I would check them out.

Our Final 2 choices were Venetian yacht club and the Harbor club. Both were very nice!
