When my FI proposed he gave me roses. He had the ring hidden inside one of the roses. I kept the roses and dried them out by hanging them upside down on the wall in my bedroom. Well now that I am moving in with FI I am cleaning out my bedroom at my parent's house. I've had these roses for over a year now. They are the last thing that needs to be thrown away. I know it is silly to keep them. My FI doesn't care. It's just that these roses give me a lot of good memories. Am I silly for feeling a little sad?

Re: A Little Sad..
That isnt silly at all!! I sit in my bedroom on the floor sometimes and bawl! I have the strangest attachments! I have old love letters, movie ticket stubs, I even have the parking reciept from our first trip into the city together! It breaks my heart to have to get rid of any of it! Why dont you start a memory box? You can keep these things in it, like keep 1 rose instead of all of them, and keep the rose in there...thats what I am doing

Why don't you put the petals in a box?
I kept a bunch of little flowers and pebbles and a feather from the 1st 'date' we were on - hiking at Target Rock - I didnt know it was a date - we just collected little things - and I wound up keeping them in a box to show his daughters the next day - I was a bit embarassed about it because we werent officially together yet - I thought he's think I was a freak - but I did it anyway - I still have the box in my drawer....
Or, find out if you can scrapbook them or something...

Re: A Little Sad..
Every time my FH gets me roses, I take a petal while they are fresh, and I tape them into a memory book that I have and write the date next to it. I use clear packing tape and it goes over smoothly so there is no air inside. It preserves the rose, because I have one petal that is at least 6 years old in there.

Me too...and me too. Also 10 years ago they're in a box of old Durango boots I had labeled 'memories'...
Can you put at least one in an envelope and keep it as a memento?

That is so nice!
I have a bouquet hanging in my living room that I will never throw out.

I fight my 'pack rat' instincts. I can't stand to have clutter and I had a friend who was the queen of saving things-to the point of being unhealthy so it motivates me to get rid of things. I agree that you can save one bud- they aren't just any flowers. It's sweet. I can't part with a few of my special stuffed animals from family members who have passed but I refuse to display them! You'll find the balance between keeping things or throwing them out.
As for dried flowers meaning drying the love- I have never heard that and I think that's an old wives tale.

Re: A Little Sad..
Everytime DH has given me flowers, I take a few of them and dry them, then I take the petals and put them in a large vase. It looks so pretty because there are so many different colors. This way I also don't feel bad throwing them out after they have died.

I would keep the pedals and put them either in a box or in a basket. I wouldn't throw them out.

I don't think you're being silly at all! I still have the roses from my first date with FH. I just cut the stems off and I keep them in a crystal bowl. That way, they take up less room and there is less chance they'll get damaged.

It's not silly at all! I keep everything as well. Make a rosary (or bracelet or necklace) our of them. I will probably do this with my wedding bo-k. You can either have them do it or do it yourself:
Thanks for all the idea ladies. I think I will take some of the petals and put them into a little trinket box I have. I don't know why I didn't think about that. DUH! That is why I have my LIW ladies to help me out! I guess since I am moving out of my parents house I have been in cleaning mode and I felt like I should throw them out. I am glad I listened to everyone before I did.
