A little ticked about a vender and need advice!-Updated!!

Hi everyone. I am a very long time poster that thought it would be a really good idea to ask your advice under a different name as this question pertains to a popular vender on this site most people know that I am using.

I have been going nuts trying to decide if I should send her an email or not and I thought I would go to my friends on the '05 board for help.

Ok here is the story. I had a hair trial with someone from this site and booked her because I really thought she had talent. We subsequently did 3 more trials until we finally got the right look down. The second trial was a complete disaster by her own admission. The 3rd she came to my apt since it was nearing my day and it was close for her. I paid a very decent amount for each trial and tipped her each time even though she owns her own business. Well on the 3rd trial I was talking with her about an amazing price my father was able to work out on my cake and she actually said to me that she will charge less to a bride sometimes if they ask and she just asks that the bride not tell anyone!
. I was floored. Here I am paying this women lots of money for the trials and a hefty price for the day of and she says this to me.

So now this has really been weighing heavily on my mind as you can imagine. I mean I will have paid this women a total of $380 by the day I get married (not including tip if I do decide to give her one). Do you think I should send her a very diplomatic email asking her about it? I don't know if she will adjust her price for me but I felt like before I knew this I would have tipped her (even though she raised her price last minute due to the fact that I had so many girls and she wouldn't be able to accommodate all of us without bringing in an assistant or having us get up at 3am) and now I really don't want to but may feel guilty if I don't.

This is what I wrote if you do think it would be OK to send:

Para 1-Directions

Para 2-Time frame

Para 3:
'I also wanted to bring something up to you. At my last trial you said something that has been in the recesses of my brain nagging at me for a while that I wanted to ask you about. You had said it to me when I was talking with you about how my father was able to get a better price on a cake than originally told to us. You had mentioned that sometimes you will charge a bride less for your services and just ask that they do not tell anyone else. Now you saying that to a bride that has paid a lot of money for 3 trials and is paying a lot more on the day of probably was not the best thing. Now you can see why it is weighing on me to ask you this; is there any wiggle room on the price you had originally quoted me?'

Para 4-Where I should send the check

What do you think would be the best way to handle this?

I would just ask her to adjust the price directly and let her know you will not tell anyone. If she balks tell her she mentioned to you that she has done this in the past and you thought that was a hint.

I would actually call her and speak with her directly. It's a lot easier for her to sidestep or avoid or deny the request on email than during a conversation. I also agree with the idea that you should just ask her directly, in whatever form. Since SHE was the one who brought this up, you don't need to justify your request. Be bold Good luck!

I would just ask her to adjust her price outright. Then if she has anything to say about it, tell her, 'Oh, well I thought you mentioned it to me because you WILL be lowering the price. Why else would you mention it to me?'

Don't tell her it has been bothering you and give that whole explanation. It's not neccesary and makes you come off sort of...weak. Just ask directly for the lower price. She gave you that bit of information, so it shouldn't surprise her that you are asking for a lower price. Maybe she was giving you a subtle hint... It's not like she would have told you that little tidbit if she was TRYING to rip you off. You just kept handing her full price plus tip - no vendor would turn that down. She will give you the discount when you ask. Good Luck!

I wouldnt send the email. I think if you have a problem and want to ask for a better price, its better to do in person.
As my attorney (FH) says, 'Never put it in writing.'

I think this is the best advice!

I wouldn't send an email, I would definitely approach her. This is something you need to discuss with her in person.

Good luck

Dont email her....After 3 hair trials I would think you would feel comfortable approaching her in person or phone.

ALSO,,how bad do you want her doing your hair? This may cause her to feel uncomfortable and discontinue her service to you. Some poeple are funny like that...
Good Luck!!

I completely agree with calling her. it will give you the opportunity to confront her right away and she will have to give you an immediate response.

Send the e-mail but leave out the part that says that it was a bad thing of her to tell you about the price thing----ask for what you want but do not say anything that can be taken as an insult!!!

The email is too easy to ignore your question.

I aggree... send the e-mail, you have notnign to loose... unlsess you feel like if for some reason she might get upset, .... but I don't think that your para is any bit snotty, and the lady DID say it to YOU, not to someone else, and you just found out, so I thnik it woudl be OK.
