A LIW Request

Can we have a board for Debates/Hot Topics/Current Events? Of course we would have to have rules and it could not get out of hand! Perhaps we can tack a perm post up top stating the rules of the forum and if you break the rules you no longer can have access to it? On another board I post on the rules go a little something like this..

These forums are intended to provide a place for debate as well as support. Heated debate and venting isall fine. You MAY NOT bring into the debates:


race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, appearance, religion, profession, etc., of other members and/or anyone in another member's family.


Personal attacks will be edited by a moderator without warning. You will not receive any notification that this has happened.


It is not the purpose of the Debate and Hot Topics Forum or its members to always affirm the choices or opinions of other members. If you are looking for a place where you will not be challenged, this is not the place for you.


Please, no posts about how the language or topics here are upsetting to you. If you are uncomfortable with talk that is mature in nature, fierce debating, having your opinions challenged, etc. then we suggest you find another forum more suited to your needs. Members will not be expected to censor themselves for fear of offending others.


Moderators have the power to remove any threads as they deem necessary


What do you think? I kind of like debates....but debates without DRAMA!

i'm all for this but i don't think there should be strict rules

i'm not gonna post to a thread thinking, 'am i following the rules of the debate?'

There needs to be some sort of rules though...otherwise it will just get out of hand....like so many of the drama threads here do. I have seen too many times a debate turn into a personal attack which defeats the purpose of a nice good debate.
I guess by the rules that is the main thing I would want to avoid.
I wish I could say we are all grown-ups and would act responsible on it but I can't.

I agree a bit with what don is saying, but I also agree that there should be some boundaries as well. Too many posts have turned personal & sour b/c one person becomes irate & personally attacks another poster - and it usually has nothing to do with the debate, just someone trying to create or get in on th edrama.

I like the idea, but I think the rules need a bit of honing.

I don't really think it's necessary.

We all agreed to abide by rules like that when we agreed to the Terms of Service when we registered at LIW.
