A look at Black Friday from an asst. manager's point of view!!

Our 30 yr. old Son, an asst. manager of an outlet store, went into his store last night at midnight, and worked 'til noon today. He drank so much caffeinated soda, he's jittery. He said they came close to making their budget today, with 8 hours left!! At one point, he was told by his boss to stand by the door, and not let anyone in because of fire codes. THE SMALL STORE WAS PACKED!!!
One customer seemed 'too' interested in the tag remover. I wonder if he was thinking, 'I want to steal it, so I can shoplift and take tags off merchandise, without getting tag ink all over me!!'
Another customer asked a sales clerk why he was staring at him; My Son, later told the new sales clerk, 'It's not worth it to get into an argument with a customer, because........ once upon a time, a customer came in, tried to start an argument over whether an item came in a certain size, which my Son, declined to get into. Later, after the customer left the store and went to another store like my Son's, he tried to use a stolen GC, from my Son's store, which was red flagged, and he were denied use of it. Then, he started making terroristic threats, so the police were called, and a loaded gun was found on the customer!!!!! The store called my Son's store to ask if the customer had been there, and told what happened!! So, my Son, takes care now!!!!!!!! I'm telling ya, my Son should write a book about all his customer experiences, not only with his present job, but from his 13 yrs. of working for Red Lobster!!!!! Any other sales gals out there with crazy stories to tell?? Mary MOB

I have one, when I work for Barney New York at the 17th Street Store, we would have a warehouse sale every summer through Labor Day. Which they still do. The sale would be 1/2 off what was in the store. We would get people who would only come to rip the store off. My favor part of the sale was what the people would look like when the cops come to take them to jail. There was a guy in a wheelchair and he would take the men suits and hook it to the chair but under his seat. Would you believe when they had lift him from the seat he was sitting an the shirts and ties. To me there is nothing in that store worth going to jail.

I have been in retail for 7 years and work at the outlets as well. I hate the midnight madness thing. It just seems to get worse and worse each year.

He should just be happy he didn't get trampled to death this year. Can you imagine? What a horrible way to go.

I worked at Rita's Italian Ice for years. It was like a psychological experiment.

Yes indeed, Michelle!!!! I'm very happy too he didn't get trampled, but some customers were not pleased that my Son was regulating the flow into the store because of fire codes. I guess they were ok, once he explained. Mary MOB

I am an asst. manager also for a popular retial chain and i think i could write a series of books each on a different topic of things that have happened there.

somedays i am on the verge of telling costumers what i really think and will loose my job by the end of this season i swear! people are terrible! and especially this year with the economy so bad people steal like CRAZY and have crazy demands.
I want to pull my hair out! Today i turned away a 13 year old with a fake $50!!!! and fought with a woman with 15 coupons, and asked a woman to put back the display with about $75 worth of merch. from under her stroller! she tried to tell me it was thiers.... really lady with all the tags still on, show me your reciept. well she couldnt (obviously) and my display was gone. ugh people!

my favorite is people who pretend they speak no english!

ok end rant! thank you i feel better now! lol

just remember when your shopping this holiday to BE NICE to your sales people... they are only trying to do thier job and get a lot of crap from a lot of people!!!
