What is considered cocktail attire, but not for a wedding? My FSIL and myself are tring to prove a point to my FI.

IMO, cocktail attire is dressy, but shorter, i.e., a short formal dress. Make any sense?

I would say the same thing.. Like a coctail dress.. nothing below the mid calf..
