So last night I went to the showcase at Milleridge and got this little cinnamin loaf thing....and let me say, yum yum lol
So, the question...do you think its a good sign that the bakery that will be making your wedding cake makes other delicious little dessert items? Do you feel that if they make great cookies/pies/loaf cake, you would be comfortable with having them make your wedding cake (without ever having tasted any wedding cake they make)?

Re: A question about bakeries
Yeah I would probably be fine with it. I would ask for a tasting to make sure but if they can't do it i wouldn't sweat it...

Re: A question about bakeries
i think that's a good sign...but to me, 90% of the wedding cake is the exterior. that is what is displayed all day, and that is what you'll see forever in pics.
of course you want it to taste good too, but everyone looks at the cake, and only about half of the guests actually eat it!!

Re: A question about bakeries
Either way I would still have a tasting...maybe just more for the fact of I have no idea what flavor I want, but I think its a good idea to still have one....plus its so yummy to try all those different cake flavors!

Re: A question about bakeries
Was this the house baker? I told you before my mom went to a wedding there in August and said every baked good actually tasted good and she said the wedding cake was as good as wedding cakes go (both my mom and myself have never had a wedding cake anywhere that we have ever liked, we both always find them really really dry and blah)

Re: A question about bakeries
Well to be completely honest, they are completely different, so I'm really not sure if it is any indication. I bake terrific pies, cookies, cakes, all from scratch... but if I had to design a wedding cake, I'd be LOST. To get a good indication if they are good, I would DEFINITELY search them under The Bride's Review and see how past brides' experienes with them were. On the bright side, it is better that her little dessert items tasted good than if they had tasted bad!!! So yes it is always a good thing when it tastes like a baker is making quality products. But I definitely would not go by that alone. Search them in The Bride's Review, for sure. And ask them what kind of fillings they offer, in case you are very set on one particular one.

Re: A question about bakeries
I think it's a good sign and the tasting would def verify that!!
We got bread from the bakery our cake comes from the other day (we just happened to stumble upon it) and the bread was great!!! I'll admit, I was pretty psyched

Re: A question about bakeries
that honestly wouldn't reassure me. just b/c you're good at 1 thing doesn't mean you are good at everything! get that tasting chica

Yum that little bread thing was sooo good.
Our cake for the E-party was amazing and it was from that bakery. We had chocolate pudding with vanilla cake and it was moist and tasty. My BM told me last night we will have a tasting with everything 1 month before our wedding.

Re: A question about bakeries
honest?
they have nothing to do with each other.
cake is all about your taste. we each have a different thing we like so its a MUST to try the cake first.
it is possible to have great pastries and crappola cake.
it is also possible to be good at everything.... try them out!!!
