A question about Curves?

A question about Curves?

Do you guys really find it challenging? I stopped by yesterday and will have a freebie into lesson on Wednesday, but I am not sure that the resistance of the machines will be high enough or that I'll even feel in place. I didn't see a single 'fit' person when I went last night, so I actually felt more out of place than in my local gym...

Or maybe its just the curves in park slope that is like that?

I read in one of my fitness magazines, that Curves is good for those who've NEVER worked out before and should only be used as a beginning workout and once those feel comfortable at Curves, they should move on to a more challenging work out..

I go to curves, and I said the same thing as Marcella. I think it is great for me now, because I never excericise. But, I can see how it may get to easy eventually. In theory though, you do as many reps as you can in the time given. Once you get stronger and faster, you will just do more reps!

I go to Curves and have a medium fitness level. I love the fact that I can just walk in and the workout is planned already. You can 'step' it up a bit by doing more running on the platforms than walking. Truth is I would never go to a regular gym because I hate working out with 'perfect' people who get made-up to go to the gym, hate waiting forever for equipment plus I get bored. Curves plays good music, it moves quickly and I am done in 30 minutes. It is NOT for the person who is already running 10 miles a day and totally toned.

Thanks for answering my questions!!! I'll give it a try, although I have been going to my local gym about twice a week or so... But no way I can run 10 miles!!!

Michelle, out of curiousity, have you tried attending classes at the local gyms, and if yes, then how is 'curves program' different from attending an aerobics/toning class, except for lack of an actual person as an instructor?

I think it also depends on WHAT you want to get out of the work-out. I stopped working out at a gym when I left my old company. We had a gym at work and it made it super easy to use. I needed to get my fat a$$ up and moving again so my friend and I joined Curves together. My friend has a great figure (103lbs, 5'1) but her doctor told her that for her hearts sake (as with ALL women) exercise is super important. I am not super challenged at all times at Curves but I enjoy going and I enjoy the workout so I go.
I have taken classes before and this is very different. You are moving from machine to machine (when the music tells you to). It is just different. You should try it. Again, I like the actual workout so that is why I go.
