FH and I are very much into older 80's metal bands.
We were just discussing about a first dance song for us and he suggested the song Forever by Kiss. I know a lot of people probably are not familar with it as it was not really popular but for those of you who do know it, do you think that it is too hard rockish as a first dance song? I love that song and so does he which I am suprised that he even suggested anything but.... I know my parents will say Trish, what are they saying in this song? LOL.... And, we are going to have a lot of older relatives (60 - 80 years old) at my wedding.
I thought maybe Love of a Lifetime by Firehouse would be better b/c it is softer but he really likes this song a lot better. Meanwhile, i go from listening to Forever by Kiss to In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel and other songs by Chicago, etc.. I know he is not into slow songs. ugghhh. I like a lot of different music myself but he is a bit more difficult.
Please give me your honest opinion on this and let me know if you think that this is appropriate or not.

I wish FH liked Love of a Lifetime but I can't say he is that gung ho over it.
I think you are talking about Cheap Trick. That song is nice but just not for us.
thanks for your help though.

Hey, thanks for your input. Honestly reminds me of when I was like 13 which is not a bad thing but that band sings about God and I just would not feel right using that song. JMO. I do love the song though.
As far as Love is on the Way, FH said he thinks another band sings it and he really wasn't that crazy about it...
My FH is very hard to please when it comes to music other than 80's rock. ugghhh.
Thanks though.

Hey! I think Forever is a really nice choice! It's your wedding song, you go with your gut on that one. It should be special to YOU - it's meant for you guys and no one else.
Did you know that Michael Bolton co-wrote that song? That was a huge piece of controversy for hair band fans at the time! Cracked me up!
I remember seeing Kiss on tour the year that song was out....I went because Slaughter was opening. Sigh...I LOVED Mark Slaughter...
No matter what this poll says, go with what you love!! Just try to imagine yourselves dancing to it...if it works in your mind, go with it!
I'm not a big fan of Love of a Lifetime myself....ya know, I would swear Forever was a pretty big hit at the time- didn't it go #1 or something?

Re: A question for my 80's hair metal listeners.....
Here's the lyrics...you can tell I'm all about hair bands!
I gotta tell you what I'm feelin' inside, I could lie to myself, but it's true There's no denying when I look in your eyes, girl I'm out of my head over you
I lived so long believin' all love is blind But everything about you is tellin' me this time
Chorus: It's forever, this time I know and there's no doubt in my mind Forever, until my life is through, girl I'll be lovin' you forever
I hear the echo of a promise I made When you're strong you can stand on your own But those words grow distant as I look at your face No, I don't wanna go it alone
I never thought I'd lay my heart on the line But everything about you is tellin' me this time
Chorus - Ya-ah!
I see my future when I look in your eyes It took your love to make my heart come alive
'Cause I lived my life believin' all love is blind But everything about you is tellin' me this time
I think it's PERFECT! And I don't think it's so heavy that the older folks will go running...
PS - Your FH wouldn't like a Bon Jovi song I gather?

Oh who cares what the old biddies have to say?! Go for it! I think it's a great song! You have to do what you guys are comfortable with. I have the Monster Ballad CD, Platinum edition if you need any other ideas...LOL

Use it! If it means something to you, then use it! That's all that matters in the end...even if people look at each other a bit confused, as soon as the song is over and the wedding goes on, no one will remember...and who cares if anyone has something to say, the day is about you and your husband and that's it!

Ooooh good idea...I love Heaven by Warrant! Jani Lane had the most AMAZING voice. Made me so sad to see him such a mess on Celebrity Fit Club!

Re: A question for my 80's hair metal listeners.....
Your first dance and song is such a special experience for you and your FH, it should be something that means something to you and him, no one else...my FH's family members keep asking what our song is and I wont tell them because I know I will hear, 'What song is THAT?'. My opinion is, the only ones that need to even know the meaning of the song is you and FH.

Re: A question for my 80's hair metal listeners.....
In my opinion...yes, your guests matter but this is YOUR wedding and anything you want to play, metal or not should be your decision. Wht should you not be true to yourself on your wedding day?
I am a very non-traditional bride as my fiance and I are HUGE hard-rock/metal heads and I have a full sleeve on my right arm. We both love things that are different and love to party so we decided on Vegas as a wedding location and will have a very different style to our event. It will have some traditional aspects to it but will also be very un-orthodox as well. I think that your music selections, especially your first dance should reflect on who you are as a couple and should have meaning to you. If the Kiss song means a lot to you and you feel it says what you want it to, then don't worry about everyone else.
We will have guests of all ages at ours, from 20's to 85 yo and the majority of our music will be hard rock/alternative but we will also mix in a little hip-hop, dance and old-school music to make everyone happy. Our family and friends understand that this is who we are and they accept that.

Re: A question for my 80's hair metal listeners.....
I think u should go with what you two love as a song... if its a kiss song go for it... we aren't using a traditoinal 1st dance song... although i guess in the 80s it might have been (glory of love-chicago) our 2nd choice is love of a lifetime by firehouse... so im a little bias to that one over kiss heheh
but do what makes you happy.. not what you think won't offend guests ... Your day Ur way!

Thank you ladies for all your help. After talking it over with a few of my friends I am 95% sure we will be using this song. I just love it and so does FH.
