If you are getting married in a Catholic church, are you supposed to include 'Roman Catholic' in the church name on your invitation?
Also, is the invitation supposed to read:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter
My name
TO
His name
or should it say:
My name
AND
His name
'and' sounds funny to me, but that seems to be what I am supposed to do (we are having a mass). If anyone has a good online reference for invitation wording, that would be great!
Thanks so much!

Re: A question for the Catholic brides
We didnt include RC in the name of the church. My daughter realized it after we got the invites back from the printer. I questioned the woman we ordered them from and she said it wasn't necessary to put it in .

Re: A question for the Catholic brides
mine says
Sharon
To
Dustin
and I checked many examples before printing them.
However, I am sure that either way will work.

Re: A question for the Catholic brides
You only include 'Roman Catholic Church' if that is indeed included in the REAL name of the church. For example, some churches are called Our Lady of the XXXXX and that's it. Or Church of St. XXXXX. I would check with someone at the church just to be sure... but no need to include it if it's not in the name. **** Important: since you're having a Mass the fact that you're Catholic would be insinuated because you would be noting that you're having a Mass. The actual words 'Nuptial Mass' really should be included on the invite... it doesn't have to be (there's no law... hahaha) but this does two things. 1. it answers your concern about cluing people in that it's a Catholic Church (so no need to put that on the invite if it's not in the name of the church) because the word 'Mass' automatically clues people in to the fact that it's Catholic. and 2. and most importantly: it tells the guest it is a Mass....which lets people know that this a religious service (not just vows, but a FULL Mass with the Liturgy of the Eucharist), Communion will be given to those who want to receive and it generally insinuates that you will be at the church for at least an hour.
I had a Mass and This is how I did my wording: Mr. and Mrs. XXXXXX request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter XXXXX to
XXXXX son of XXXXX on 'date' Nuptial Mass at 'time' St. Christopher's roman catholic church address town, state
A pic of my invite is in my review and in my album if you want to look.
I have also seen people put after 'request the honor of your presence' at the Nuptial Mass uniting thier daughter to XXXXX.... etc.
Couples that do the inviting (not putting parents names sometime put 'as we celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony' or something to that effect.
However, the way I did it is the most standard and traditional and was the format I found in just about all invite books and etiquette books i saw.

Agreed with the above...we put Roman Catholic Church-but that is part of the name of the church. And 'and' doesnt sound right to me either

Re: A question for the Catholic brides
Thanks ladies! I'm pretty sure 'R.C' is in the official name of the church, but I'll call them to check. Looks like I have a little editing to do too...
Another random question--do we have to stick to the readings in the 'Together for Life' book? I'm having trouble finding an Old Testament one that I like.
Thanks again!

You are NOT limited to the readings in the Together for LIfe book. You can choose ANY reading you want...in fact, i think we only used one from their suggestions. you should book readings that are meaningful to you so anything goes... you need one from the old testament, book of psalms, new testament and one from any of the 4 gospels.

Thanks, that's good to know. Now I just have to find one I like. What did you use for the Old Testament one?

Thanks, that's good to know. Now I just have to find one I like. What did you use for the Old Testament one?
Here's what I used:
First Reading: Tobit 8:4-9
Responsorial Psalm: I did not choose one from the book of Pslams, technically... I used my favorite hymn 'Magnificat' which is based off a part of the Gospel of Luke. the priest was fine with it since it is often sung as a Psalm. Together for Life will give you more options specifically from the book of Psalms, then you just pick the musical setting you like if you're having it sung and not read. Your organist or cantor can give you more suggestions as hymns from the hymnal are often used as the sung pslam because its text is often based on a psalm (hope this makes sense)
Second Reading: Romans 12: 3-13
Gospel: Matthew 5: 1-12 (this is the Sermon on the Mount, the Beautitudes)
