A question for you ladies and gents that have bought or are in contract

Original post by Kriss2c

How did you know that was the house for you. I have a feeling, it's a 'you just know' kind of deal, but I want to see if there are any of you that used some sort of deductive reasoning or something.

Going thru a tough time right now, so any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: A question for you ladies and gents that have bought or are in contract

My experience was pretty weird, after looking at a lot of houses we found the our house by accident.

We weren't really looking to buy the house we bought -- our realtor wanted to show us what we could do with another house we were looking at that needed a lot of work. This house still needed some work but more of TLC (cosmetic) as opposed to the other house that needed bathrooms redone, kitchen updated. Both houses were in the same town around a mile apart.

We wanted 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a large back yard ( large backyards are pretty rare in Northern NJ), high ceiling, 2 car garage, updated kitchen, great school system, no more than a 30 minute commute to NYC.

The house was somewhat underpriced and as a bonus there is a stream in the backyard at the end of the property.

For some reason when I left the house the first day something told me that this was the house, I could see us living here.

Thanks everyone for all of your input. We are in 'attorney review' on one of the houses I talked about in my first post. We anticipate the next couple of days going pretty smoothly and then we can say we are in contract. NJ does things differently than in NY, in most cases the process is faster.

I was concerned because we both felt rushed and didn't want to spend the next 30 years paying for a mistake. It took me a little while but I see more potential in the house we are buying and am getting excited about it. If all goes according to plan, we will close the week after we get back from our HM. I hope my nerves hold out!!!

Thanks again for all your info.
