A thought about Bridemaid dresses

A thought about Bridemaid dresses

I was just looking through the one of the Bridesmaid dress threads and I realized something: When I was chosing dresses for my girls to try on, I was picking dresses I would wear. When they found the dress that they love, I liked it, but I wasn't thrilled with it. Now I realize it was because I didn't like it for myself. Then I realized that two of the girls plan on wearing the dress for other occassions because they really like it and it doesn't look too bridemaid-y..

Just had to share my revelation

I agree.. that was the hardest part for me. I knew ahead of time that two of the three girls would use the dress again, I WANTED them to! It was harder to pick their dress than mine!

Funny thing is.. after all my prepping my mind to be blank on opinions 'Im not wearing it' attitude... they picked a dress I would wear myself!!!

Go figure

Re: A thought about Bridemaid dresses

When I went with my Bridal Party for BM dresses we were all looking at dresses and the girls were trying things on. Everytime we narrowed it down to certain choices one of my matrons of honor would tell me 'it's your Giovanna, you make the final decision, this is your wedding' So I was like 'ok do I pick a dress that I would like for me or them'...LOL But then my SIL tried on this dress and the girls all seemed to like the dress a lot and then they all took turns trying it on and when I saw how happy they were with that dress I agreed. I did like the dress the only thing that was throwing me off was the fact that the color the dress was in was yellow and that's all I saw and I didnt like the color at all. But everyone kept telling me this is not the color, we're look at swatches and pick the color we like. So we did just that and we picked pink for the BM and like a dark rose color for the Matrons of honor. I kept thinking to myself 'i hope this color works' only because that darn yellow of the sample dress was in my mind...LOL But I loved the dress and it's a dress you can wear again! The material was chiffon. Here are two pictures of the dresses. This is as close up a view of the dress that I could get. Can you notice the matrons of honor in the darker shade. The second pic is of the whole bridal party.

I didn't have a particular dress or look in mind - I just knew that I wanted my BM's (my dearest and closest friends and family) to look and feel great in what they were wearing. I wanted them to wear a dress that they would wear again - even if each of them wore a different dress...as long as the material, color and length were the same.

I picked the color black and sent them all a file with about 20-25 dresses...asked them to pick their top 3 and we'd go from there. Wound up they all chose the same dresses - for the most part - and have all decided to wear one dress in particular. Three of us are supposed to go Wednesday to try it on...we'll see if the weather holds up.

Re: A thought about Bridemaid dresses

This was huge for me. I have 3 bm that are all slender and petite, but one is flat chested, one is hippy, and one is busty. they all have different tastes, too. one is anne taylor/loft-ish, one is very earthy/hippy, and the other is very chanel/gucci ish. i didn't want to be a b$%@&, so i have told them that i am looking for them to have something that is flattering to them and that they would wear again. these dresses are expensive and i know firsthand how much it sucks to spend almost 500 on a dress you only wear once and dislike. so i said tea length, with lace/embroidery. we'll go from there. if they are unhappy, i will be unhappy and i don't want to be unhappy on that day!
