Answer to question 1. I am having my reception at Land's End, which is in Sayville right by the Fire Island Ferries. Personally, I think it is one of the prettiest halls I have ever seen (which is, of course, why we are having our reception there).

You might find Locations Magazine (its really a book) helpful to find a location. It gives you a good summary of many LI catering establishments. You can pick it up in the registry area at Fortunoffs.

We are having our reception at John Anthony's on the Water in Babylon. We found the prices to be extremely reasonable for a place with such a spectacular view. We haven't tasted the food, but have heard lots of rave reviews, many from this board. They were the only place we went and actually looked at, though I did make several phone calls to other places. Land's End is supposed to be very beautiful, but they were way out of our budget (about $40 per plate more).
We are going with a DJ (Parameters). That was a preference of mine, and it was much more sensible money-wise.
