Help ladies. FH and I tried to block hotel rooms for the weekend of our wedding (June 20th) and everything in the area is booked. It is the weekend of the US Open golf tournament and even though it is out in Southampton, hotels are all booked all the way to Farmingdale. FH is waiting to hear back from a woman at the new Wingate on Crooked Hill in Brentwood (near Costco and Target). They show rooms available online. I don't know what else to do.

Accckkkk! Help!

Try REdroof INn in garden City by the mall, ...I think HOliday INn Express opened in Westbury, there is another HOliday inn I believe it is in Westbury. Howard Johnson on Jericho Turnpike near the Westbury Manor. Executive Inn in Woodbury. Goood Luck

i would break out the bed and breakfast book and start calling - and if all else fails talk to a realtor they can sometimes refer you to short term rentals - definately keep them closer to the hall - this way when everyone is worn out and tired it is easy for them to get back
persistance also pays off if they didnt call back call them this way they know you are serious about wanting this space

The same thing happened last year to a guy I work with. I think he ended up getting a block at the Hilton or Radisson(whatever it is now) in Huntington. I would opt for the Westbury Manor idea though, there are a whole bunch of hotels in Westbury by the Source Mall.

I just spoke to someone at the Wingate in Brentwood and she said that the woman who handles room blocking was out to lunch, but she was able to tell me that their standard rooms that are regularly $109, will be $225 that weekend. Can they do that????

I blocked rooms at the Howard Johnson on Jericho. Woohoo! $109 a night. Thank God!

Yeah I remember when I was looking the hotels told me even though the Open was far out the hotels were required to hold rooms by the Tourism association. Maybe you can call the hotels and see if any will have blocks with rooms that will be released. What is I mean I booked the Wingate and they release everything but 10 rooms in March and then they hold those 10 till May. So maybe people at area hotels blocked alot and they will get released because other hotels have that same sort of rule. I know as of now I have 3 rooms that will be released in March so maybe other people will too?

Sorry, but I'm one of the *other* people! I have 20 rooms blocked there...they told me they'd release the first 10 if they weren't booked by April 19 so I've been harassing my family to go book...

Just had to clarify....It's not the LICVB&SC (regional tourism promotion agency) that blocks the rooms. The USGA blocks thousands of rooms each night of the week long tournament for all the press (domestic & international), the players & their families, the people who bought tickets to attend, and all the staff (food, tickets, etc.) The LICVB&SC just keeps track of which hotels have rooms available for people like you who need to find places to stay at the same time.

Has anyone been to the Howard Johnson's in Westbury? Is it nice or sketchy? It's all we could get at this point. I hope it is nice.

Funny thing: When I finally spoke to the sales woman from the new Wingate in Brentwood and she told me that even if rooms became available, they were $225 per night just for that weekend, I dug up some courage and told her what I was thinking. I can't believe I said this:

Me:'I just want to confirm that this is the same Wingate on Crooked Hill in Brentwood, across from an adult shop and down the road from Pilgrim State? The same one that overlooks a gravel pit? I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend, but I live in Brentwood and familiar with your location and your rooms are not worth $225 a night'

Saleswoman: 'uh...well, this is just our U.S. Open rate. Every other weekend it's $129'

I am so happy I said what I was thinking. It felt good!! And I actually got rooms booked at a better rate.

Awesome that you said that!! That is a crazy price increase. Some places I went to raised there prices for that weekend, but not by that much. Glad you were able to find something!!!

You don't know how happy I was after I told the woman at the Wingate what I thought of her inflated prices. It felt SO good. I still can't believe I did it (it is SO unlike me)

I think I got the April release date because I didn't block them all at once. I did 10 at first (thanks to you!) and then when I realized that the ushers were going to get hotel rooms as well I blocked 10 more. That wasn't until September or so, and the girl (Jessica?) said there were only 3 rooms left in the hotel for that weekend after my block!
