aaahhh - church

i've been trying for about 3 weeks to get in touch with a priest at the church that we want to get married. i went there once two weeks ago, twice last week, and just called today to see if i could meet with a priest this evening.

although they always say that the priests are always available until 730, i've yet to meet with a priest.

i even asked the guy working at the rectory if we should look into another church, and he said it's up to me b/c it's such a funny coincidence that every time i try to meet with a priest there is no priest available.

i'm trying to book this church for the ceremony, so i need to figure out if they are available, ceremony time, etc. still have not been able to do this at all.

is this normal??!!!

I'm in the same boat... 4 weeks ago was the first time I called the church and since them I've called at least once a week and have gotten no response. It's very frustrating but I'm sticking to my guns... I'm in love with this church

This is normal. Priests are EXTREMELY busy people.... funerals, Masses, visits to the hospitals, counseling parishoners, meetings, etc. Basically 2 people doing the work for a pairsh of thousands!!! You may also have an extremely large parish which increases their workload.
They WANT to marry their parishoners. this is what i would do:

1. Call the rectory and tell her that you need to meet with a priest ASAP to discuss wedding preperations (I would not book my hall until you've done this.) Ask if she schedules the appointments or do you have to schedule with the priest. Also, if you're curious, ask if dates you're interested are available, they have the calendar, but usually they are NOT allowed to pencil you in for a date as the priest has to decide if you're even able to marry in the Church).


2. If the above does not work (didn't for me) I basically cornered the priest after Mass. he was aware that I was trying to reach him and heapologized for not getting back... we scheduled a date and time right then and we went from there.

GOOD LUCK.. .don't give up on your church... it will happen.

I'd try calling the rectory ALOT!
I left a message at my rectory and I had the priest return my call within the same week... I guess I lucked out bc I heard that alot of people have this problem...

If it's the church you &/or your FH grew up in, I would NOT settle for anything other than that church.. I would really be more adimant about leaving messages for the priest. Hell, even tell them the wedding is in a few months and it's urgent! Anything to just get him on the phone!!!! LOL! Actually yea, dont lie to a priest.. that's pretty bad. LOL!!!!!! but good luck!!!!
