ABC's 'LOST'

I'm addicted to this show!!!

For those of you who have watched the past 2 episodes, I have a question that I need answering and I cant find the answer on the 'LOST' website..

Where were they all flying too before they crashed? I know the pilot mentioned something but I cant remember..

My theory about the island..

I think they are on an island in the Bermuda Triangle & if this is a Bermuda Triangle-like tale, it would explain several things:

(some observations from a viewer)

- the breakup of the plane . Planes just don't break up like that in flight; after they hit the ground, yes - but almost never in flight. And while the tail section shearing away is plausible if the plane were under extreme stress, the nose section coming apart and landing a considerable distance from the fuselage is not. The entire plane crash pretty much defies the laws of physics; whatever affected it had to be unnatural.

- the appearance of the polar bear indicates that other planes or ships have crashed or come apart in the area of the island. For the polar bear this was almost certainly a ship (large mammals are usually transported by ship, not plane), and it had to have broken up in order for the polar bear to escape drowning.

- the large creature that seems to like eating people. My rough calculations based on what I saw from the brush moving about, the death of the pilot, and the 'height' of it's cry tell me that it's at least twenty-five feet tall. There are no mammals on Earth this tall, nor have there ever been any of this size. Not ever. Even the titanothere, the largest mammal ever to exist, wasn't this tall (and it was a plant-eater). Furthermore, if you take a look at how the trees move and how the animal maneuvered about the nose section to snack on the pilot, it has to be bipedal. I thought 'Tyrannosaurus' or one of it's relatives, but the producers have nixed this idea, so whatever it is it isn't from Earth - from ANY time period.

- and, of course, the fact that no one has ever detected the distress call, despite the fact that it's so powerful SIXTEEN YEARS LATER that it can still swamp a transceiver.

If I'm right, future episodes might include:

- other animals which don't fit the characteristics of the island;
- bizarre weather patterns, like the ones that we saw in the first episode;
- the wreckage of at least one ship somewhere on a beach;
- the wreckage of a second ship or plane also somewhere on the island, with some unique characteristics (i.e., it must have been carrying a power source that can power a transmitter capable of producing sixteen years of strong signal, and the only thing that fits the bill is a nuclear pile like the ones used on military satellites and NASA interplanetary probes);
- anomalies that appear and disappear near the island, perhaps unusual lights or vortex-like weather patterns

Guess we'll just have to wait and see. If the producers have something else in mind I sure as hell hope they explain everything in a satisfying manner and don't blow it with bad science or something ridiculous like 'a secret government experiment'.

P.S. Before someone says 'the Bermuda triangle isn't in the Pacific, I'd like to point out that ships and planes disappear all over the world. It just so happens that some of the oddest disappearances have occurred in what is known as the 'Bermuda Triangle'. Just because you aren't in the Triangle doesn't mean your ship or plane can't disappear, never to be recovered. Google some stats if you want confirmation.

Sounds convincing..What do you think?

I am addicted to the show as well. I didn't notice most of the things you mentioned. But, one thing I did notice was about the girl who is pregnant. Don't airline not let pregnant women that far along fly??????

I thought last night's episode was great!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that is some theory. It does make some sense though. I do agree with you on the hope that it isn't something stupid. I can't stand when shows or movies end up with the dumbest explanations for things.

I actually missed last night episode though. What happened???

Ok...Charlie's flashback to the plane showed him racing to the bathroom, and doing drugs. He then attempted to flush the drugs, but as he dropped them into the toilet the worst turbulence hit, and he never flushed - which is why he went to the bathroom when they went to the cockpit.
In Kate's flashback, she is handcuffed next to the US Marshall, who is mocking her, telling her she may get lucky and 'they' may believe her story - he does (sarcasm). He then asks her if she would like more juice - with a seemingly unnecessary emphasis on 'juice'. He is struck with a suitcase in the head during turbulence and in order to get her oxygen mask she must take the key from him and uncuff herself. The US Marshall is the guy with the shrapnel in him.
The boy is looking through a comic book written in spanish, and turns to a page with - you guessed it - a polar bear on it. He attempts to find Vincent - who is proven to be the lab we have seen via Jack - and finds the handcuffs.
We find out Sayid was in the Iraqi army during the Gulf War.
The find the transceiver, and climb to higher ground. On the way, they encounter a polar bear (comic book coincidence?) and the smoker shoots it. Kate takes the gun and asks how to work it to remove the clip and bullets. They cannot transmit a distress signal because something is already transmitting - a french woman calling for aid in a message that has been repeating for 16.5 years. Shannon translates : 'Please come get me. They are all dead. It killed them all.'
Jack is removing the shrapnel from the Marshall when he wakes up and grabs him and asks 'where is she?' (note - in the previews for next week, he shows Jack a pic of Kate and tells him she is dangerous).
Shannon shows a more human side when talking to the pregnant girl - who has not felt the baby move since the previous day. The Asian guy later makes some type of food and offers it to her and upon eating it, she feels the baby move.
Previews for next week: Marshall, as stated above, black woman says her husband is not dead.

What was the food that the man was handing around? I cannot wait to find out what is going on between himself and the woman he is with.

I assumed it was some kind of seafood, he was trying to catch something in the ocean in the beginning of the episode...

Ok, I think I found my answer..

They were flying from Australia to Los Angeles and around Fiji they hit turbulence that cause the plane to nose dive and then break apart.

A couple of the characters had gone to Australia to meet or collect (in the case of the boy and his father). The fact that they are together sorta says they were leaving there for somewhere.

I wonder in next weeks episode when the woman says that her husband is still alive....is maybe she knows something. I wonder what happened to the tail of the plane. Do you think it is on the island somewhere? I know it fell off way before they crashed....but I just wonder about that.

I missed the first 20 minutes due to a phone call but I caught the best stuff. thanks for the recap!

I think I was most shocked last night to discover that the Kate was the prisoner.. oh my how that threw me for a loop

I have a question (I am hooked too)...

is this show only going to be a season or do you think its going to be a gilligans island type thing......i just find it weird that this is a series...if it does pretty well...then i can't see them carrying this thing on and on ... any ideas....

I have a few other questions...

(I am bad with names) the girl who translated is that her brother she is fighting with all the time or a boyfriend. And why do they fight all the time....

whats with the guy who had the gun...have we gotten any details about him yet...he seems like a real jerk...

The girl who is preggo....is she with a boyfriend/husband or solo or did he not survive.

I missed the first episode...but I am sooo addicted now.

TIA.

So am I! Some speculations and agreements that have are:

--weird weather patterns will continue to persist
--I think their could also be a strange time warp or continuum problem
--I think that Kate may of been a 'drug mule' or involved in some sort of smuggling business

I also think that there is something more sibling related going on between Shannon and her brother, Boone.

I also think that the gentleman--according to the website his name is Locke, who said to the boy, Walt, 'Do you want to know a secret?' May also be involved in the plane coming down. Total speculation but there is something eerie about him.

I am really curious to see how they develop the focus on the Korean couple.

I could speculate some more but I've got to get back to work.

Self-centered Shannon (Maggie Grace) — who actually gives herself a pedicure amid the chaos — and her estranged controlling brother, Boone (Ian Somerhalder) — constantly bicker and must learn to get along if they are to survive.

They were supposed to be seated in first class but, luckily, got bumped just like Jack (Matthew Fox). I'm guessing they are from a very rich family, as Shannon is used to getting her own way, and has previously spent a year in Paris studying/partying.
