Re: Abnyone know what teh requirements are to
I think it might depend on the class you're teaching and on the school. A friend of mine taught 1-2 night classes at Hofstra. She taught some history courses, without any certification at all. She has her Masters, but not in history.

My advisor and very good friend at hofstra is an associate professor, whatever that means, and he doesn't even have a masters...he has a BA!

To be an adjunct just a master's in the subject area. Now they can be more strict for those who make professor since there are so many people wanting the jobs, so I think to make full professor now they mainly hire PhDs (or EdDs for the Ed. classes--I am working on my EdD now and there are several people who want to teach full time at colleges).

If you just want an adjunct job, you should just contact the department and ask them what steps you should take.
I work at a university (prefer not to post it) and they request resumes first.

I think the minimum requirement is a Master's, but in some cases, it may depend on department requirements (I went to a CC that had all PhDs as Chemistry profs.) or how competitive it is to get a job.

My Dad's a CC President--many areas have a flood of PhDs who can't find permanent positions and are willing to adjunct hoping for permanent positions. But there are always less popular areas or times--a friend of mine taught history 7PM-10PM at Suffolk Riverhead because hardly any of the full professors wanted to go out there to teach. It's not a ton of $--I want to say $1000 or so for a class? He still teaches one class a semester in hopes of getting a full time job, but there are enough history PhDs that I doubt he will. I've never heard of anyone teaching at the college level with just a bachelor's...I'm really surprised Hofstra would hire with no Master's...
