When did you first start you babies on cereal? How much did you give them and how often? Also how much breastmilk/formula did you use to mix it? Thanks a lot ladies

i started her when she was about 4-5 months - 2oz breast milk combined with single grain rice cereal...just in the morning for breakfast.. eventually she worked her way up to 4oz.

Sean started 4 days before his 4 month birthday.

We gave him 1T cereal w/ 4T formula to start -it's like soup, 2x/day. He moved to 2T w/ 3T formula pretty quickly.

FYI: We fed him the same cereal 4 days in a row (per our peds instructions - to see if he had any reactions to a particular grain). We started with rice, then oatmeal, barley and mixed cereal. He seems to like 'em all!

It's so fun to watch their faces when they try something new!!

He's 5 months today and eats cereal twice and 2 jars of fruit each day. We're waiting until January to start veggies. Yum!

Thanks Ladies. I will see what our peditriction says but I was curious what others did because Damien has quite a healthy appetite

Lyla started cereal at 5 months. We started with 1 T mixed with BM. I gave her that for a while, and increased it slowly (she still doesn't take more than 2-3 at a time). I don't mix it with BM anymore, just water.

She started with rice, then oatmeal, then barley, now I mix it up. She's on pureed veggies too, so out of her 2 meals, one is just cereal, and the ohter is veggies with cereal. Not sure when I'll up it to 3 meals a day. We haven't started fruits yet, I'm doing yellow/orange veggies, then green, and then fruits.

Hi Niha (yawn) ha

Mia started cereal too, she did rice last week and then Saturday she started on Oatmeal and she loves it, how cute are they when you are feeding them, she just wants to grab the spoon and feed herself!

I will keep her on cereal for another week or so and then introduce the veggies, my pediatrician suggested veggies first before fruits because sometimes the kids get hooked on the sweets and don't eat their veggies.

Mia will be 5 months this month so we waited to put her on food until the last possible moment she is just so big, on December 5th she weighed in at 16 pounds 10 onces, on pure breast milk!
