Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
I think so. Do you file taxes together now?
ETD because i forgot to mention:
When fh and I were considering domestic partnership, they needed 2 forms of proof or something for my insurance. They needed a tax form (to prove we filed together) and something else. Since you and FH already live together, I think you are good with the marriage license. All insurance co are different though, so double check with his co when you can.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
Yor marriage license expires after 60 days if you don't get it signed and get a permanent one. I think you might have to wait till then, but I could be wrong.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
I would think that you would have to wait until you are actually married if his insurance states you must be a spouse.
As far as getting insured as a domestic partner....we needed to provide like three forms of proof that we lived together for a substantial period...like bank statements, proof of joint-application on a loan, and a rental lease.

ITA. I think you might have to wait until you get the actual license in the mail.
They won't even let us do a domestic partnership thing at my office, no matter how much proof we have.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
the marriage license is not valid until after it is signed, after the ceremony & mailed. then you can add him to your insurance.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
Once you get the marriage certificate in the mail, you can add your FH on your health insurance effective your date of marriage. You might be able to submit the change prior to receiving the certificate but he will not be active until the insurance company recieves the certificate.
Hope that helps!

I don't think you are legally married until the marriage paperwork is signed and mailed back to your house, after your ceremony. After that, then you can go on his health plan.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
I work in HR and according to our carriers we can't put people on their spouse's benefits until there is a signed copy of the marriage license.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
you need your final paperwork to prove you are married.... BUT you have to update all insurance info within 30 or 45 days of any Qualifying Life Changing Event... if not you will have to wait for your/his company's open enrollment at the end of the year and not have the coverage until 2011.

Re: ? about marriage and health insurance
Some companies cover 'partners' so you don't have to be married at all. They would just have to have a bill going to your address. If the company says you must be married, you need your validated marriage license.

Domestic partner coverage can cost 5 times more than 'family' coverage to the employee... just be sure to look into that!!!
