Just curious to know what is better?
getting silk wraps OR gel

Anyone have the gel that can tell me if you like it or not? How long can you go without getting a fill in?
also, do they look natural?

Thanks!

I definitely suggest the gel too! I've tried the silk wraps and they don't hold up as long as gel does..

HTH!!

I have had both but have had gel for the past year or so. I LOVE the gel! I go about every 3 weeks for a fill. Also, everyone tells me that my nails look very natural.

Silk wraps are better for your nails than gel wraps. You need to find out what kind of gel (acrylic or powder & glue). Acrylic lasts and are pretty durable. Powder & glue pretty much falls apart when you sneeze.

**Keep in mind although silk wraps are better for your nails - ALL WRAPS DAMAGE YOUR NATURAL NAIL**

All nails should be filled in every 2-3 weeks depending on how fast your nails grow. Anything longer than that and your nails will look like they need a touch up.

As for looking natural - it depends on how good the person is at doing nails. I've been getting my nails done for over 15 years and I've been everywhere throughout Queens, the Bronx, and parts of downtown. Some places make your nails look boxy and bulky, others are neater and more natural.

Anytime you get your nails done - if you do not like something TELL THEM AT THE TIME THEY ARE DOING YOUR NAILS. They will make sure to fix what you want so they come out according to your likes. If you walk out and come back in a couple of days, most times they'll pretend they've never seen you. If you specify your likes at the time, they will try to accomodate you because they want you to come back to them.

If you go to one place, try to stick to it. Nobody likes to take over the next person's work. No two salons have the same prices either. On Corona Ave (and Junction Ave) there is a nail shop run by ALL MEN (KZ NAILS). I LOVE this shop because they are extremely affordable, they offer free hand painted designs (on all or specific nails your choice), great personalities, and they speak English. Most nail shops the ladies are non-stop speaking their language, which can make the customers (especially new customers) uneasy.

I hope this helps. FM me if you have any questions.

I'm not sure about gels vs silk, I'll probably go regular acrylic...they've never let me down!

But in asking about nails...is it like a standard to have a french mani/pedi for your wedding day? What are some other alternatives? I'm just not crazy about french on me, but don't know what else is 'acceptable'

What colors are you using. As an idea, say for example your girls are wearing red and you're wearing ivory. You can go with red nails and Ivory design or vice versa. French isn't the only style you can do for your day, but you don't want to go nuts either. Just remember your photos - the last thing you want is your nails to be the distraction.

Otherwise, ask the salon for their designs. Something might pop out for you.

i switched from silk wraps to gel about 2 yrs ago and haven't gone back... they last a long time, i go every 3-4 wks between fills (because it's french, it's not immediately visible that you need a fill).
however, it does really depend on who does them... i go to the same girl all the time, but i let someone else in the same salon do them once and i hated them.
other than that, i am all for gel and get compliments on my nails all the time. HTH!

I have no idea either. To be honest I rarely get my nails done. I've been buffing them lately and was considering on getting fake nails for the wedding.

I just want them to be more uniformed. This is a great thread for me.
