FH is going to be looking for trumpet students. Other than the obvious places (like music stores and craigslist) does anyone know of where he could place adds? he wants all grounds covered! :)

Does anyone know if schools would hand out notices to students or is that soliciting?

they def wouldn't do that. however, if a parent comes/calls looking for a tutor, they will sometimes give them your information (though they usually offer it to the teachers in the school first). once you have some word-of-mouth going, it takes on a life of its own.

What about Newsday? They aren't that expensive.

How about Julliard?

My office calls them for events all the time.

I used high school students (violinists) for my wedding - they were great and cost only $120 for both for an hour.

Maybe try calling Five Towns College or you can ask to post an ad in their student newspaper. Good luck

Try contacting the PTAs, booster clubs for the music departments of area schools, and the like. They can spread word of private lessons for students involved in those activities at school.

Does your FH belong to music education trade associations? Membership benefits in those organizations often include listings in their databases for prospective students and their parents. Here are a couple of national ones:

Music Teachers National Association

National Association for Music Education

There may also be local chapters or indepedent local organizations as well.
