About the campuses of Suffolk CC...

Here I go again posting about schools...
I wish I could just get the ball rolling... I am trying to enroll at Queens College, and they told me I need several courses before my application would be considered (for a Masters of Arts in Teaching). (My undergrad was in Marketing and I dont have enough Liberal Arts)...

So the advisor was kind enough to suggest that I take these Liberal Arts courses at SCCC, since its so close to home. I will be taking them at night, maybe 2 nites a week, in the spring. I've heard to be careful at some of their campuses. Does it really matter which one I go to (I live in the Commack area), or should I really try to avoid one campus or another ? Maybe its a stupid question, but I just thought i'd get the scoop from the locals!

It's amazing how DOWLING (which costs triple, yes triple, of what I'll pay at QC) accepted me within days of my visit there, without me even finishing the whole application process !! (got a bank account, see ya tomorrow ! LOL) and here Queens College is giving me a hard time !
But my handy dandy 'grandma babysits' benefits are in Queens.....so QC takes the cake..

Sorry for rambling, any feedback on SCCC campuses ? Will I even have a choice ?

Re: About the campuses of Suffolk CC...

I think taking undergrad liberal arts courses at Suffolk is a great idea! Saving money is always great in my book! While I'm not sure if you'll have a choice in campuses, Patrick went to the ones in Riverhead and Selden, and preferred Selden. I'm not sure why, but I'll ask. If you DO have a choice, I think Brentwood might be closest to you, if traveling matters.

Good luck Anna! I just know your going to be a straight A student!

Re: About the campuses of Suffolk CC...

I can only tell you that Selden is a great campus. Both of my parents work there and I took a couple of classes there during summers to graduate early. I have heard that the Brentwood campus is in a sketchy area, but I have never been there and don't have any first hand knowledge. Selden is very safe. I grew up down the block from it and used to go there to use the tennis courts before I moved away.

If you need financial aid help, go see my dad. He has been a financial aid counselor at the Selden campus for 28 years.

Thanks for the feedback ladies ! I hate the 'Waiting period' for things to happen.
I WANT TO START NOW ! Do I sound like a 5 year old that wants instant gratification ?? LOL.

Re: About the campuses of Suffolk CC...

anna, I went to the Brentwood campus a few years ago and I never had a problem. I went to class and went straight to my car. I never hung around there though.

If you live in Commack, I don't see why you can't save yourself the trip and go to Brentwood. I really don't think you'll have a problem.

Will you be taking day or night classes?

Re: About the campuses of Suffolk CC...

honestly, I think you're ok.

But, I haven't been there in over 5 years...so I guess things could have gotten worse!

In any campus...just find a friend from class that you can walk together to your cars...
