About to go see Wedding Halls!! Any advice???

Calling all 2011 Brides!!!
I'm new to this site and just about to officially begin planning my Autumn Fairytale 2011 wedding!! I'm planning to go see some wedding halls this weekend and I was looking for any advice or tips on what to ask??... What to look for??...::

I would def ask if they tax the tip or add the tax then the tip.

I would ask what their min # of ppl is.

Ask to look at the bridal suite and look at the size of the bathroom. If you want a big dress then you will need enough room for 2 ppl in there plus ur dress.

Ask if they include any decorations such as centerpieces.

I would also ask them to work w u on prices see what you can get them to throw in for free.

Good luck!! Its overwelming but it is true when you walk into the right place you know it!!!!

I agree with the previous post - ask about decorations, center pieces and any other decoration type items that they could supply you.

Try to get as much out of them as possible - ask for what upgrades they have (like a chocolate fountain) and if they could throw that in.

I was told a while ago to never to offer the max amount of people you want at your wedding since it may hurt you. For example - say the RH asks you how many people you want to have and you say 175, they can turn around and say 'well our minimum is 200' in the end you have to pay more money for more people.

Some times its better to not give too much info when you first walk in & never be afraid to ask anything.

I think once you have done your initial search on halls and narrow it down to your 2-3 favorites, go back to the halls again. During your second visit they are more willing to negotiate. Remember that your biggest negotiating tool is the number of people you are inviting....

I would always say 'We would love to invite more people, but can't really do so because of the price... can you do anything about that?' and usually they start bringing the price down (if they are good business people). A small price change for them *could* mean that you will invite more (whether you actually invite the people or not).

Goodluck!!

My advice is...dont be afraid to ask for extras and negotiate the price. Good luck and have fun!!

How many people do you think you will have, and what kind of hall would you like (by the water, one wedding at a time etc..) maybe we could give you some ideas to start your search.

Oh wow....my Fiance is in the US Coast Guard so as a tribute to that, I would like something by the water....Though I never thought of it as an issue before, i'm starting to be very turned off by the idea of having my wedding in a place where it's like 'move 'em in-move 'em out' so having my wedding being the only one going on would be ideal... We are thinking about 220 people.. I want an environment that is warm and inviting, but not gaudy or over the top. I'm planning to have an autumn themed wedding, so to have trees and foliage at the venue would be a definite plus!!!

autumn - we are in the same boat about the water thing! we actually looked at chateau la mer and loved it there! very pretty. not gaudy, but all the advice that people have been telling you about the questions to ask are great questions!

Good luck! We are still looking as well but are between larkfield manor and chateau la mer (it narrows things down when you have so many people too.. we are having about 220-250...)

MrsQ2Be,

I actually just took a look at The Old Field Club in Suffolk Long Island...boy oh boy does it look beautiful.....Seemingly what I had in my mind. I've not looked at anything yet. This weekend me and the FH are going looking for the very first time....I'm nervous, but also EXCITED!!!

My advice is once you find the RH that you LOVE....NEGOTIATE!!! They will be willing to work with you if you negotiate with them and show that you really want to book with them..It worked for us!!!

We were going to check it out but I heard it was too small for the amount we needed.

We went to a testing a Chateau la mer last night (we had seen it before) they od tastings every so often before you book.
I loved it so much last night (more than when we made the appt to check it out!) that we booked last night! :) CLM is definitely woth checking out! Talk to Nick. He is GREAT! even if you have to request him specifically... totally worth it!

Giorgio's and Lands End are by the water, and one wedding at a time.

i made be biased but LANDS END! TRUST ME! my fh is a boat Capt. and he wanted no opinions but the hall being ON THE WATER. but we both wanted something not too gaudy and over done. not too modern but not too old style. LANDS END FIT our perfect mold!

oh and just read about your 'fall' foliage... lands end has beautiful grounds. flowers changing for each season! looked everywhere for on the water venue with flowered grounds and NO PLACE had it like lands end
