Ladies - I need some advice here. Our wedding is about 1 hour away from where we - and our priest live. Our priest drives but not at night because his vision isnt that great.
He will be with us the night before at the hotel for rehearsal and then dinner, and then the next day which is the wedding - which will go until 1am.
We're trying to figure out if we should offer to pay for his hotel room for both nights- but our hotel is $300/per night so that would be another $600 added onto our budget. There is a less expensive hotel but its a ten min drive away - and we'd still want to arrange for his cab to/from our hotel, if he stayed there.
What would you guys do in this situation?

Are you super close with him?
If it were me I would offer to pay but that's only because we're close with ours. If not then I do not think it would be rude or improper to not pay.
Worst case if you have qualms about not paying, I would offer to pay for the cheaper hotel and arrange transportation for him back and forth.

Why is he invited to ur reception? Is he planning on staying the whole time? if he was just a vendor and not a friend/family friend, id say no, I wouldn't pay.

We are very close with him which is why we invited him to the reception (although I thought that was customary?).

honestly, i'd probalby opt for the cheaper hotel ... the priest doesn't have to know that the hotel he got isn't in your 'hotel block' ... he'll just assume your other guests are staying there too

nope its not. most people offer for the officiant to stay through the CH and most decline.
