Not quite a check though. Finally narrowed down the massive list of venues to a managable first short list. 5 places to call for appointments: Thatched Cottage, Flowerfield, Venetian Yacht Club, West Sayville CC, and The Royalton. I may take Flowerfield off the list before all is said and done, they're just way far out on the Island. If they're out then Jericho Terrace is in.
Anyone have opinions on these places?

Re: Accomplished something,
Sorry, I'm no help about the places you've chosen, but that's great that you've narrowed down your list! :)

Re: Accomplished something,
We almost went with the Royalton. It is amazing. But at the end of the day we were looking something with a beach feel. What do you most want? Outdoor space, big ballroom, specialized menu, etc? And what's your theme?

Re: Accomplished something,
Flowerfield is beautiful but I agree, it's definitely far especially if your guests are in Nassau. We went to a wedding there and the hotel (Danford's) was 20mins away (it felt like forever).
JT is also beautiful but they do more than one event there. You'd never know another event was going on though b/c they really do a great job when it comes to keeping the parties separate.
Also check out North Ritz Club if you haven't yet. It's similar in price to The Royalton and Flowerfield.

Re: Accomplished something,
Our theme isn't really a theme it's Casual Elegant Fall. we're looking at 175-180 people so cozy really doesn't factor in. I don't like when it feels like everyone's right on top of one another, I want the food to be good, the staff to be good to my guests not just my FH and I, and I would like to not pay the cost of feeding a small country per person :) ( I Know that's all of our goals.) I'm willing to pay more for the RH and sacrafice some of the extras if it's a place that's really worth what they charge.

Re: Accomplished something,
We've chosen the Thatched Cottage....so in my opinion, you can't go wrong. Amazing customer service, willing to negotiate the price, very pretty location and flexible.
Good luck with your search.

Re: Accomplished something,
We've been to Flowerfield and the Royalton for weddings. Flowerfield has a HUGE cocktail area that I think looks best when you have 200 or more people otherwise it looks like there is too much of an empty space. The food was amazing though. Royalton does have the charm factor that you are looking for and still will be cozy even with over 200 people. My friend said they were able to have any food they wanted and it was very good so I don't think you would go wrong with either of those venues. HTH!!

Re: Accomplished something,
We checked out Thatched Cottage, loved the ceremony site, the cocktail hour room and Andre the banquest manager..Great pricing for alot...
West Sayville CC is farther out of the island than Flowerfield in my opinion. I liked it and the pricing was amazing BUT if it is cold out or bad weather and you need to have your ceremony there then you and your guests end up in a weird tiny room so the ceremony area can be turned into a cocktail hour room. Everything is used for everything...A little vintage also...I liked it though.

Re: Accomplished something,
Just went to a wedding at the Royalton last weekend it was absolutely AMAZING. The food was delicious, the service was absolutely flawless, and the place was beautiful.

Re: Accomplished something,
There is a Holiday Inn only 3 miles down the road from Flowerfield with a shuttle (holiday inn of stonybrook). I have never been to the thatched cottage but I think that is very north also and can be out of the way for some guests.

TC is the top of my list. My mother was remarried here 4 years ago and it was great. The distance from Queens and Jersey (Where FH's family is from) is the only downside.

Re: Accomplished something,
I really liked the Thatched cottage, I thought the cocktail hour was so different in that inside area and the view amazing. The room upstairs did seem a little tight though. I also was not a big fan of the dinner food.

I agree with you on Flowerfield. I liked the cocktail area but I didn't think the ballroom was nicer than any other places I've gone to. I was shocked when I heard how much they charge pp.

Re: Accomplished something,
The places you're looking at have all different prices and themes.
West Sayville CC will NOT work for 180 people. Their max is 160 and in my opinion, it should be more like 140. Their price is great but bathrooms are really old and outdated. The place is basically a big old house or mansion. For small weddings, this could work. The view is nice. The ceremony is in the extended ballroom which is connected to the cocktail hour. The cocktail hour is also in the same room as the reception, so everything is in one place.
Venetian Yacht Club, we booked in March and got a GREAT deal. In October, the prices will be higher. Venetian is nice because it has all marble and natural light inside which makes it very elegant. Yet outside is very simple, right on the water by the pier. It's definitely unique. I have heard the food is amazing (We have not gone for our tasting yet)
Royalton prices are much higher than VYC and West Sayville CC. If you are able to afford it, try the Inn at New Hyde Park. It's beautiful!!

Re: Accomplished something,
thatched cottage bride here .. i love it !! .. and with quite a bit of reviews about it im more excited !! so yeh .. i didnt visit the other places.. its such a hard decision me and fh went to AT LEAST 10 .. prob more bc a few i blocked out of memory .. lol .. but when we hit tc we were giddy and so afraid of the pricing .. that it would be out of our league .. but it was the same for the other venues .. we just picked april bc it was obviously a tad cheaper than may or june and FH HAD to have an evening wedding .. happy hunting!!
