Re: Address Envelope for Dr and Mr?

Does she go by Dr? Lots of people with phds don't actually use doctor in their private lives, I know a bunch who are like that....

...that being said, I don't know what the answer is. anyone else?

She DOES go by Doctor and makes it a point to write Dr with her name.

I call her Dr. S-----, but I know nothing of her husband

I had a similar problem- I addressed an envelope like this:

Mr. & Dr. John Smith

where the female is the Dr.

This is incorrect, sorry.

The proper way to address the situation is:

Dr. Susan Smith and Mr. James Dean
if she uses her maiden name.

Dr. Susan and Mr. James Dean
if she uses her married name.

ETA: you can use his military title too, if you know it.

Okay sorry here's the other problem....

I DONT know her husband's name at all. She's a former prof of mine and I know nothing about her husband other than brief information she's mentioned in passing.

Can you just ask her????

I didn't bother with the whole title thing...I put everyone as Mr and Mrs. If people are going to be upset that I didn't call them Dr, too bad. I didn't see why certain people needed special titles.

I've never once been addressed as Dr. on my invites and never even though about it until I started reading all the 'how to address Dr's' tips on wedding websites!!!

Ladies,

Thanks for the help! I went straight to the source and just decided to email her although I was hoping to avoid this step.

Thanks for the help though!

Taken from Emily Post 17th ed. (the most recent version), assuming the couple has the same last name:

Outer: Dr. Jane Smith and Admiral John Smith

Inner: Dr. Smith and Admiral Smith

Obviously, substitute 'Admiral' with his title.
