address envelopes questions

reading how to properly address envelopes, outside you have mr. and mrs. (man's name) last name. and then inside you have mr. and mrs. last name.

so the woman's first name is never mentioned? what if you know the woman in the couple better...just seems weird.

what do you think?

I thought the outside envelope was supposed to be Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and the inner envelope was John and Mary Smith.

That's what I thought too. Are you having them professionally addressed (calligrapher)? If you are they should know the proper way. But I believe it's what L&M2006 said.

This is the example from Inkspun and Crane's has a similar format. Most of the places I looked have the same thing.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Benson
2710 Lake Street
Allentown, Minnesota 00000

Inside: Mr. and Mrs. Benson

My outer envelopes said Mr. & Mrs. but my inner envelopes were more personal - our aunts and uncles inner envelopes said 'Uncle X and Aunt X'.

The people that we're close with had first names; if they were our parents guests, then we did the Mr. & Mrs.

Re: address envelopes questions

sorry, I guess that's how it's done but in my opinion i think it's wierd to not mention the woman's name if you know her personally.

Again, i'm not saying it's right or wrong... but I'm going to address mine with both names notwithstanding tradtion!

I would go with whatever you think is best in the end

Re: address envelopes questions

Well I guess my opinion isn't proper because here is the 'formal etiquette'

Married Couple
Mr. and Mrs. Troy Maxwell Clayton

Married Couple in Which Woman Kept Maiden Name

Ms. Christine Anne Pritchett and Mr. Troy Maxwell Clayton
