address labels help!!

ok so here is my question.. i am in the process of doing the labels for my save the dates, i know they should have been out already but i have had so much going on that i havent had the time to sit down and start working on this! i guess it isnt too late to send them though considering the wedding is in november right?? there is still like 11 months left so i think im still ok with sending them out... right??

but now here is my question.. i have a guest list put together already in excel in alphabatical order and everything and now i have to retype everyones name and address for the labels for the save the dates.. i downloaded the label format for microsoft word and i was wondering if there was an easier way to put all the addresses into the labels to print out or is this really the only way is to type everything from scratch on there?? ahh, so much time consuming and maybe this is why i have put this aside till now.. lol!

thats the way i did mine...Everything from start for each name....or if you want to copy and paste all of the names on to the label from words it'll work. But i dont think you are late.

i don't think you're too late at all!! ALSO, even though it might be a pain to re-type all the addresses from excel into the label program...if you save the labels, you can use them again for thank yous, christmas cards, etc. so just think that you'll do it once and use them a lot!!

I don't think you're late either!

I did the same thing, I put all the names in an excel spreadsheet, then I copied and pasted ALL of them into word!! It was a pain!! But, now I have it all done...

I'm not as proficient in word and excel as I am in in Wordperfect and Quattro Pro, but can't you do a mail merge using word for your label template file and excel as your data source file?

Gosh, I hope you're not late b/c I haven't even started my STDs! I thought we were fine if we got ours out within in the next two months. Now I'm a little worried, lol.

STD's typically go out 6-9 months before the wedding so none of you are late. I used word and then copy and pasted it into the label program, very time consuming this was the worst part of my planning so far and I am dreading doing this again for my invites in a few months

It's an easy process but there are a lot of steps. FM me if you need help.

Re: address labels help!!

how do you do a mail merge?? i am a dummy when it comes to these things, haha. this is like the first time i am doing this, so im a big dummy with this right now! =/

PS: but the guest list i have together on a excel spreadsheet is different from the way i want to address the save the dates labels.. cause basically what i did for the address spreadsheet on excel is all the names of the guest and their addresses and full first and last names so i have a overall count of how many guests i have inviting!!

so for the labels program i cant copy and paste from the excel spreadsheet cause i am not doing full names, i will only be doing for example MR & MRS SMITH... ughh this is all soo annoying and time consuming and once i am done with this part of the planning i will be sooo happy, lol!

Re: address labels help!!

ahh so i guess i have to start all new with the label program and type everyone and their addresses all over again.. ughh, im dreading this cause its so time consuming! =/

Re: address labels help!!

you could still do a mail merge and then go back to change everybody to mr. and mrs. when i do mail merges at work, i always have to go back and fix formatting but getting all the information in, does save time. what version of ms word are you working with? are you on a pc or mac?

Re: address labels help!!

i am working with a pc and working with version word 2007.. ahh i dont know how to do a mail merge!! :(

PS: i am actually starting all new with this guest list spreadsheet on excel because the one i have was the first one i made and it was a sloppy version with just the names typed on so i can get an idea of how many guests.. i am going to start a new spreadsheet and write the guests in the right way.. how did you do yours?? im looking for some easy tips?? for example how did you keep your guest list and how did you put it together?? did you write all parties names full first and last names including kids name or did you just keep it simple like mr and mrs smith and write the amount of guests from that household??

Re: address labels help!!

hi. i actually started by keeping a spreadsheet with all of my guests names and then i decided to go old school and keep it all by hand. this was a big deal for me since i do everything electronically but i found a great little template/list thing on martha stewarts site so i just printed it and filled in all of my guests by name. i just did mr. and mrs and as they rsvp'd i put in the number of guests and any children's names if they were coming. it worked fine for me but we only had a few kids that came.

i actually think you would be better off keeping everybody's first names in your list, if you are going to address the std's informally. then, when you are ready to do invites, you can just change the names to mr. and mrs. does that make sense?

here's a link about doing a mail merge in word. it's SUPER easy once you get started!

Re: address labels help!!

ugh i seriously hate this part of the planning and cant wait till i finally decide how to do it and i am finally done with it, hate hate it! lol =P its so much work and so confusing! this is why i like the old school handwritting the guest list by hand better, maybe ill just continue on doing that and doing it the same way you did by printing out a sheet and doing it all handwritten.. lol! =] its so much easier to follow also cause like you said when they than rsvp you just check them off and add how many guests and all and its so much easier cause you will always have that sheet with you where if its on the computer you might not always have access to it!

PS: how did you find that martha stewart sheet? on her site?
