Can anyone help? I am setting an age cutoff for my reception at 13 (I have 20 cousins under 13 and it would just be tooo much to have them all)
Soooo, I have to tell out of town guests that I will provide a babysitter at the hotel. Can I do this through email? Also, has anyone split up a family? My one cousin has 4 boys - 2 over 13, 2 not. Should I be upfront and call her before the save the dates go out, or just let her read the envelope? I know it's 'my day', but I also don't want to insult or hurt anyone! Thanks!!

Re: Addressing an age cutoff
wow 20 cousins under 13 is a lot!!! If you don't want to be worried about insulting people, I would definitely make a cut off. 13 is a pretty good age, old enough to take care of themselves for the night. You could even make the cut-off 18 if you wanted to. My next door neighbor is my age, she is getting married, and she's been our family friends for years...my sister is 16, and she is not invited to the wedding, however, my brother and I are both invited. They made their cutoff 18, and people just have to deal with it.

Re: Addressing an age cutoff
I would send something with the STD's. A cutoff is a good idea-when my mom got married two years ago she had a no kids wedding-no one under the age of 18. It was quite nice-but I missed the kids.

Re: Addressing an age cutoff
i think the way you address the envelope would clue people into who's invited or not. like '___ Family' would mean everyone, 'mr and mrs ___' would mean adults only, and listing names would mean only those people. i would include a not inside saying something like:
'for your convinience we will be having a babysitter present at ___hotel (or whereever) for all children under the age of 13. if you need more information, please feel free to contact us'
yuo can also add a section for requests - like if the kids want to watch a certain movie.
if the kids are older and you want to make it more personal, you can include an invitation for them to a special 'kids only' party. instead of picking their entree, they can pick their flavor of ice cream or something. if you want to make it really cute, you can include their own rsvp card (or print it on the back of the official one to save money).
just a thought.

Re: Addressing an age cutoff
I have a lot of cousins also but I am keeping it ONLY nieces and nephews of mine and FH's. Then I will also put 'Adult Reception To Follow' on invites. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. Family should be understanding, even though you can never really protect everyone's feelings. In the end it is your day!
