Addressing envelope questions...

Addressing envelope questions...

I have a few people with professional titles but I'm not sure how to word the envelope:

Dr. John and Dr. Mary Smith or Dr. Mary and Dr. John Smith or Dr. and Dr. John Smith
**********************
Dr. Jane and Mr. Bob Smith or Mr. Bob and Dr. Jane Smith or Mr. and Dr. Bob Smith
**********************
Dr. Joe and Mrs. Sally Smith or Mrs. Sally and Dr. Joe Smith or Dr. and Mrs. Joe Smith

or am I completely wrong??

I am so confused!!!

I heard either Dr. John and Dr. Mary Smith or The Doctors Smith.

If only one spouse is a doctor they are listed first, regardless if it is the woman or man.

Re: Addressing envelope questions...

I had a lot of Dr.'s but no Dr. and Dr.

I did Dr. and Mrs. LastName

For females who hyphenate their last name (I had one Dr. as well) I did:

Dr. FirstName Hyphenated-LastName
Mr. FirstName LastName

it just so happens that the Dr. in question is one of my bridesmaids so i didn't feel awkward putting her first as Dr. i put all my friends that had to be on a separate line first...

i don't know what 'proper etiquette' dictates, but i am also one who doesn't really care as long as one is polite...

What about Dr. and Mrs. John Smith? Is that OK or does it have to be Dr. John and Mrs. Jane Smith?

No, that's okay. Just a little old-fashioned. Some women don't like to be referred to as Mrs. John Smith.

I'm also not one to care about etiquette - for couples that had two professional degrees I put Drs. John and Mary Smith. I just don't like the way The Doctors Smith looks.

OK, last question!! If they are both doctors, does the female Dr. go first or the male Dr?:

Dr. Jane and Dr. John Smith

or

Dr. John and Dr. Jane Smith

Sorry, I just don't like the way 'The Doctors Smith' looks!

I don't know what 'etiquette' says to do, but I put the man's name first in these situations.

The only time I did not put the man's name first was if both members of the couple had a degree, but the woman kept her maiden name. Then I put
Dr. Mary Smith and Dr. John Jones

Hope that helps!
