addressing envelopes

when you are putting 2 friends on the invites (a couple) and you are friends w/ the girl - does her name go first? or does his?

miss mary jane & mr. joe dirt

When I did mine, I did it exactly like that. For couples who weren't married, I did:

Miss Jane Smith
Mr. John Samson

If they were a married couple, I did Mr. and Mrs. John Samson.

For those who didn't live together, but I'm friends with the girl, I sent it addressed to both, her name first and to her address.
