Addressing Envelopes

I'm not too sure of the proper way to address the envelopes. When addressing the envelopes, is the beginning of the address supposed to line up with the first letter of the name, are you supposed to center the address, or it doesn't matter?

Mr. & Mrs. Jonathan Doe
123-456 Bayview Drive
xxxxx xx xxxxx

Mr. & Mrs. Jonathan Doe
123-45 Bayview Drive
xxxxx xx xxxxx

When addressing the envelopes you center the first line and the next lines are not centered but under the first line, like this:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
12 Smith Street
Smallville, Somewhere

BTW, & is not suppose to be used and the state is suppose to be spelled out.Hope this helps.
