Addressing Invitations

As far as invitations and placecards do I need the first and last name of every guest coming? My FMIL just gave me Mr. & Mrs. so and so. Whats the proper way to address them?

We did Mr. and Mrs. John Smith on both the invite address and place cards.

I did whatever I put on the invitations.

Mr. & Mrs. john Smith
Mr. John Smith & Mrs. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith & Guest (If I didnt know who it was)
