I know that we have discussed this and of corse now that I am looking for advice I cannot find the post. I am getting ready to prepare my invitations and my question to you is this: do I take the time and print the addresses on the envelopes or cheat and take the clear label way out? I like the sample I did of the envelope printed....I just think it may take some time. What do we think? TIA!
ETA: What size font to use on the envelopes?? And is it necessary to address the inner envelope? I am so new to all of this! Please help

Re: Addressing Invites
I did the clear label thing, and used a size 16 font. For the inner envelopes, it's just the names of the people you're inviting (no address). I used clear labels for those as well.
The only problem was the labels kept getting stuck in my printer!
If you have nice handwriting, I think it's fine to write them out.

Re: Addressing Invites
This is a personal preference thing.
The etiquette books say to have them HAND written (either by a calligrapher or you can even do it yourself in very nice/fancy handwriting). Handwriting is the preferred mode of addressing invites.
The next preferred method (by brides who don't wish to spend $$$ on having them done professionally and don't feel comfortable with their handwriting, etc) is to print directly on the envelopes in a very nice script or calligraphy style font.
The least preferred method (from what I've seen with polls, etc) is labels.
Personally, I would not do labels, clear or otherwise, for my invitation envelopes. I don't like the look and feel that they don't look as professional as just printing directly on the envelope, if you don't want to do calligraphy.
I would take the time to print them individually. Shouldn't take THAT long if you do one full test and it works fine.
As for the inner envelopes, it is customary to have the names of the invitees on them as well (usually more informally). Hope this helps!

Re: Addressing Invites
I would print them right on the envelope. I think it looks so much nicer. I've almost thrown out wedding invites that came with labels on them because, without looking closely, it honestly looked like junk mail I could get from my law school or something. (Not trying to offend - seriously happened once or twice...)
I think it looks nicer to print directly onto the envelope. The rules of etiquette also say to do calligraphy, print directly on the envelope, or hand write the addresses. (Yes, I know, down with the etiquette rules!)
Unless you're REALLY opressed for time, I'd print right on the envelope. Otherwise, just do what works for you and use labels.

Re: Addressing Invites
I would print it directly on the envelope rather than use labels.
Don't know if you want to do this but for e-invites I bought a gold calligraphy pen and hand wrote them myself.

Re: Addressing Invites
You know, a lot of schools have calligraphy art classes. Maybe you should go to your local high school and speak to the art teacher. See if she can reccommend a student who would address all the envelopes (or just put names on the inner envelopes) for like $20 to $50 bucks... Kids always like to make money... (someone did this back when I was in HS. They also contract part of my videography class to film the wedding, and some photog students to take e-pics...)
