I am getting ready to send out my STDs.. and I have a couple of questions. Since they are not invites- not sure how they should be addressed.
1- If I am sending to a single person with date, do I address to Jane Doe and Guest??
2- If I am inviting a family- can I just address to the Jones Family-- even if the kids don't live at home? I don't want to waste a STD- when can just send to a family... We will send everyone separate invites though.
thanks!

Re: Addressing STD's
What I am going to do is, for a single guest, I will only address the STD to them. Example, Mr. John Jones. For family (kids at home or not) will be Mr. & Mrs. John Jones and family OR The Jones Family.

Re: Addressing STD's
You don't address to Jane Doe and Guest...just Jane Doe.
And you can just send them to the family without listing everyone's name on it, but if they don't live at home they should probably get their own STD. If they're just away at school I wouldn't bother though.

Re: Addressing STD's
1. you invite the individual and the guest will be put on the actual invitation- not STD
2. one per household, so if children are not living home then you would have to send out a seperate one for them

1- If I am sending to a single person with date, do I address to Jane Doe and Guest? --Yes, this is the correct way for an invite. In fact, one does not send to a specific BF or GF because the wedding is a ways off and things change. For an STD the specific person is fine but if you know you are inviting a guest, it is nuce to give them the generic head's up.
2- If I am inviting a family- can I just address to the Jones Family-- even if the kids don't live at home? I don't want to waste a STD- when can just send to a family... We will send everyone separate invites though. --You can, particularly if there are small children. If they are older, like teens, then best is to write (no need to use and extra STD) Mr and Mrs Jones John and Mary although the using the Jones family is technically OK, the kids are not going to change and it is a nice way to personalize.

i agree with deb.
i think the std is not only to tell people the date, but to also give a heads-up as to who exactly is invited. i would use 'and guest' to tell someone that they're being invited with a guest. and for the family, i would only send one per family, but list everyone on the envelope so that they know explicitely that everyone is invited.

Re: Addressing STD's
thanks guys.. throughout the process I realized I now need to do another mailing.. an OOT mailing to those that may not receive a STD, but also need hotel info.
I could kick myself for not ordering more STD's.. there is a wedding planning lesson here!!
I also want to send STD's to all of our friends- as they are the ones with the busier schedules- and the ones who can appreciate the cuteness of my STD's So, I have gotten myself into a dilemma-- but, I figure family who FH does not remember their last names-- I literally heard him on the phone with his mom asking last name's of a couple- their last name was the same as his!! Anyway, so some family and people over 70 can get a nice mailing with everything they need to know about the wedding weekend in Dec/Jan.
