Adressing question

How do you address someone who is widowed or divorced and still uses their married name? FH's grandma and my grandma are both widowed, and my aunt is divorced, but still uses her married name

Proper etiquette is:

Mrs. John Doe

but I did Mrs. Jane Doe

i had to do this with both grandmothers. and they havent been called mrs. john doe(husbands name) in forever.

But what about if the person is divorced? Do you think its insulting to refer to them as 'mrs'?

Re: Adressing question

If they are divorced, it should be Ms. Jan Doe, not Mrs. If they are widowed, it should be Mrs.

Re: Adressing question

to a divorcee who is still using former husbands name(Formal invite Ms. is accepted but not perfered):
outer: Mrs.(or Ms.) Smith Robertson or Mrs.( or Ms.) Barbara Smith Robertson(smith being maiden)

inner: Mrs. (or Ms.) Robertson

Check out www.foreverwed.com. that where i found it.

I did Mrs. First Name, Married Last name.

On one, I did Ms. First Name, Married Last name because still had a particularly nasty divorce, but she still uses her married last name.... It just seemed weird to put 'Mrs.'
